I bumped into a friend yesterday, we had a quick coffee and catch up.
I have a 3yr old. She has a just turned 1year old.
Said 1 year old is cruising.
Started cruising around the (very child friendly, independent coffee shop).
She whips out a hat, to put on 1 year old 'in case he falls over'.
It's an actual thing. A "Thudguard"
An actual padded hat resplendent with chin strap.
Really?! We can't let toddlers well, toddle now?
What next? An actual fucking bubble?

I haven't got DS one... yet. I probably won't but it is tempting as he's a nightmare for doing crazy scary shit and head injuries worry me (possibly far more than they should)
I saw a report on a study that found head injuries in children can actually have a far longer impact than previously thought. Which resonated with me, as a family member had a head injury in childhood that was notable but no one really thought much of at the time or since. Until he ended up in a psych unit due to alcoholism and other behaviours that really all came to a head much later in adulthood. He and his wife were told by one of the doctors that they thought the alcoholism may have been the triggered as a result of a small acquired brain injury, his wife spoke to me and asked if I could remember any such incident which of course I could.
So for those reasons I wouldn't mock anyone who chose to buy one for their baby.
Talking about mocking, Gl0ria's post is horrible. And ignorant.

I didn't really appreciate the unattractive and weird comment either, my son wears one at times due to self harm. It isn't the most appealing thing in the world but looks a millions times better than the line of bruises that used to be a constant feature of his forehead.

I wouldn't choose one for a child who didn't need one but I would assume if another parent did chose to use one they probably had their reasons.
