To ask why I've got acid reflux?

I posted in summer about this and other posters helped me realise my daily portion or two of gazpacho was causing the acidity.

Now it's back. I'm avoiding coffee. We did have raw tomato for breakfast yesterday but since then I can only think the causes might be... weak black tea mid morning today (I drink black tea really rarely) or a Fudge finger and selection box bag of Buttons shared with my husband last night? (Don't judge...Christmas eating "rules" are still in place in this house).

Any ideas? It's quite mild but still irritating.

helicobacter, even. Stupid phone.

Thanks, everyone, seems to have gone away. Not had tomato or black tea. Will probably have tomato for breakfast again tomorrow, though, so will see whether that triggers a repeat.

I used to have brutal reflux, it often spoiled evenings for me. I went on a low carb diet and lost weight, about 18 lbs and the reflux disappeared, it was a welcome but unexpected side affect. Can't be sure if it was weight related or carbs, as in white processed carbs. Anyway, it's been two years now and thankfully reflux is no longer part of my life. I haven't read all the posts so sorry if I'm repeating but you could try cutting out white processed carbs.

Dairy especially milk is one of my triggers. I found this out when I cut out milk completely for a couple of weeks then drank 1 glass.

LockedOutOfMN · 31/12/2016 19:28

Thanks, everyone. I don't drink milk or eat things like yoghurt, butter, cream, ice-cream. As I said, I did eat cheese over Christmas, which is unusual for me, and might have caused a delayed reaction.

I can't eat Cadbury's chocolate any more.

I've found protein bio yoghurt very good for my stomach problems.

Juanbablo · 31/12/2016 19:50

Chocolate always gives me heartburn.

LockedOutOfMN · 31/12/2016 20:17

Thanks, I do eat chocolate probably once a week, but never Cadbury's as you can't buy it where we live (the Fudge and Buttons were from a selection box gift).

Try going gluten free. I did, and the reflux which I had suffered terribly with went within a couple of days. It has totally transformed my life.

LockedOutOfMN · 31/12/2016 20:34

Thanks, riesling. I'm not allergic to or intolerant of gluten.

Raw tomato aggravates my son's reflux so I'd be looking at that, or chocolate, as a cause. Onion, leek or garlic also aggravate it.

knittykitty66 · 31/12/2016 20:41

I agree with the chocolate being a possible trigger, especially Cadbury (good knows why: bloody kraft) haven't been able to eat it since last flare up of GERD due to food poisoning. Occasional hot chocolate or square or two of galaxy ok though.

I get it pretty much every day and i get what i can only describe as a growling noise coming from my throat ive been taking Lansoprazole for about 2 years but it doesnt really help, last time I went back to my doctor I was given a big bottle of Gaviscon. I find alcohol, hot chocolate and pastry really effect me

LockedOutOfMN · 31/12/2016 23:56

Had a huge new year's eve dinner of king prawns, salad, cherry tomatoes (raw), roast beef, spicy sauce made of red peppers and chillies, and a slice of traditional sweetened and glazed bread ring with two glasses of cava, plus tomato and olive oil on bread and black coffee for breakfast earlier. No reflux since yesterday lunchtime! Long may it continue Grin. Thanks again to everyone for all of the advice.
