To have an ice cream party in January?!

DD is five in January. Did soft play last year, want to do something smaller this year but has to be indoors this time of year. An ice cream parlour (40 min drive away) does parties where the children make their own ice cream and it sounds lovely. Will everyone think I'm mad though in January?!

I'm probably equally mad but I think it sounds fab (I have a dd with a Feb birthday and if we had a place like this would love to do it)

The kids will love it. How are you expecting the kids to get there though - parents driving? 40 minutes is a fair trek in that case.

As it is inside as well though the kids will have a ball.

Do you think 40 mins is too long a drive? Confused

I was only thinking of it was for them to drop off then have to come back again. Lots of back and forward. Where I grew up everything was miles away - I must now be spoiled!

I think the parents would probably stay for the party but I guess it is a bit of a drive.

I don't drive so if DP was at work ds couldn't go to a party 40 minutes away. Nice idea though 😀

pinkblink · 30/12/2016 13:24

I'd drive 40 mins if I was friends with the parent, doubt I'd be bothered driving that far for just someone from school having a party

Floggingmolly · 30/12/2016 13:25

I'd only invite as many as you can actually ferry there yourself, I personally wouldn't do 2.5 hours of driving to get a five year old to a party.

Passmethecrisps · 30/12/2016 13:26

My just turned 4 dd attended a party that was about 40 minutes away recently. It wasn't me who took her but dh said it felt a treck - certainly on the way home with a tired child.

But as I said, the venue sounds ace and maybe if it is a small group people could arrange lifts.

Hmmm might look for somewhere a bit nearer. Thanks for the feedback all Smile

Ice cream party sounds great but may be better for slightly older ones. Ds is five & they pretty much enjoy tearing around shrieking. I wouldn't travel more than 20 mins to a school friend's party.

TiredBefuddledRose · 30/12/2016 20:51

Also on the distance thing - do the parents of all her friends drive?

PollytheDolly · 30/12/2016 20:52

Am I invited? Grin

MaeveMillay · 30/12/2016 20:57

It sounds lovely but faaaarrrr. I'd travel 40 minutes for an older child's more specialist interest party. Rock climbing or something.
