Aibu to wonder why my medical records state I'm pregnant?

I went for a routine smear where I had to confirm my details.

The notes said I was pregnant & the nurse asked if that was correct.

Is that routine for smear tests?

Did the nurse say:

"The notes say you're pregnant, is that correct?"

or

"Are you pregnant?"

There are often mix-ups in medical notes. In my experience too medical staff routinely ask about pregnancy in any woman of child-bearing age whatever they are in hospital or at the doctors for. I was asked this recently when having a cyst removed from my head under local anaesthetic, and had to do a pregnancy test before having a hysterectomy even though DH has had the snip, I had a Mirena coil and was on my period.

They always ask if you are pregnant because pregnancy changes mean the results are mostly useless. They would always reschedule for a few months after the birth once your body settles down again.

Bit off topic but I had a smear test and the Nurse doing it said that it looked like I was pregnant (internally) I did a test that night, negative - found out a few days later I was.

OohhItsNotHoxton · 30/12/2016 22:53

I had routine smears at the beginning of all three of my pregnancies. They are all 24+ now.
Prob just a mix up OP. Maybe check with the receptionist next time you are in contact.

It's probably just a mix-up. I'd call the surgery and make sure they change it - my other half had a mistake on his medical notes once, and if he hadn't found out and got it corrected, it could potentially have affected his treatment for a subsequent problem.

SparkleShinyGlitter · 30/12/2016 23:30

I don't think your notes said you was pregnant

I think the nurse asked the standard "are you pregnant" question like they always do.
Like when you have a uni and the gp takes a urine sample they always say "are you pregnant" to write yes/no on the paperwork

Have a UTI

ShowMePotatoSalad · 30/12/2016 23:31

Why are you worried OP?

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 30/12/2016 23:32

i had this with my last smear. News to me! It was an admin error apparently

Klaphat · 30/12/2016 23:37

My notes said I'd had the MMR as a baby. I really hadn't, according to my parents (and the fact I've had both mumps and something that seemed suspiciously like rubella).

MummyBearToTeddy · 13/04/2017 21:07

You can have a smear test quite soon after giving birth at my dr and because they're all messed up they make you come back! Our gp wrote to me just after DC was born and said my annual smear was due along with my urine tests and I said I just had a baby so when would be safe to come in and she booked me in that week. I was not quite 2weeks pp! It was even soon enough the nurse commented that my stitches were healing well!

NabobsFromNobHill · 13/04/2017 21:26

i just wondered if it was common practice

No, its not common practice to say in patients notes that they are pregnant when they are not. Obviously.
