Why is everyone so angry with house guests over the holidays?

AIBU too be annoyed by everyone constantly posting about how ungrateful their guests were?

Do people really invite friends/family over to count how many times everyone thanks them and are grateful for their cooking/hospitality?

Why can't you just enjoy having these people over why do you need them all to say thank you, yes it's polite but god it's not the end of the world if you all have a good time!

The trouble is that often these guests are family and that can be complicated for all kinds of reasons. Not least because you didn't choose them but are stuck with them; it's possible to love someone and find them supremely irritating.

I would find hosting a lot less stressful if one of my guests listened to what I said and was more respectful of others generally. I would also find it easier if they didn't put dirty things on the draining board Angry

I could also do without the never ending game of top trumps one guest is singlehandedly playing at people. It's embarrassing.

Because you aren't likely to post on AIBU: 'I have relatives staying over, it is lovely to spend time with them and everything is going fine'. We only hear about the unhappy or awkward situations.

MizzEmma that sounds like hell!!

I think it obviously helps if you have helpful house guests! Ours have a baby and their other child gets up about 6 where as mine get up about 9 ish, they help themselves to stuff and make me things when I get up rather than me running around after them all the time.

I have to say changing beds etc doesn't appeal but being hit with the Norovirus sounds horrific in a house full of people!
