It's an annoying children in hotel one

Am at a series of fairly important meetings which are being held in a hotel. It's got a reputation as being a place where conferences are held and business people stay, rather than a holiday type of that makes sense? Anyway, we are in a suite of meeting rooms that are kind of on one side of the hotel, so not anywhere where people not involved in the meetings are likely to be.

However, all day today - from the start at 10am and to the finish at 5 pm we have been disturbed and interrupted by what seems like a family/friend group of children all about 6-7 years old. They have tried to get into the room, actually did on a couple of times before being booted out and we were then subject to various shouting from the parents, called entitled child haters, that sort of thing.

When they weren't physically interrupting the meeting they were running around the corridor outside and shouting an screaming at each other, whilst their parents sat in the bar and shouted at anyone who dared complain. The hotel management have done their best to control them and have warned them that they will be asked to leave if it happens tomorrow.

Couldn't even escape the little brats this evening as they were dining in the same room, at the same time as us and spent the entire time running around the restaurant.

I know children can be lively and rowdy, but ffs it's a hotel, not their home and surely it's not unreasonable to expect them to fucking behave and not interrupt people trying to have a serious meeting? We didn't manage to get through half of what we wanted today because of this.

lol I new r there rules ? Confused

Text speak has always been discouraged, that's not part of any new rules.

Not RTFT (reading the fucking thread) or at least the OPs updates is not against any 'new rules' either it's just basic good manners. Hmm

Michellelovesizzy · 30/12/2016 21:55

ok well sorry I have offended you so much

Michellelovesizzy · 30/12/2016 21:58

RTFT ? Is that text speak ?

YouTheCat · 30/12/2016 22:00

Takes more than that to offend us lot.

Michelle, if you go into the FAQs right at the bottom of the page I think it shows you how to highlight your posts and the OP's posts in different colours. It makes it so much easier to read stuff.

Michellelovesizzy · 30/12/2016 22:02

Ok thank you

SauvignonBlanche · 30/12/2016 22:07

RTFT ? Is that text speak ?

No, it's on the MN acronym list, see here.

Michellelovesizzy · 30/12/2016 22:08

Michellelovesizzy · 30/12/2016 22:19

Look the truth is am a really bad dyslexic and find it hard to right long reply's to things so just try to get to the point, and sometimes it's easier for me to use text speck to

YouTheCat · 30/12/2016 22:29

In that case, the different coloured posts will help a lot. Don't worry about the text speak. There are some posters who will pick on every error, but they are twats.

Michellelovesizzy · 30/12/2016 22:31

Lol ok i will keep that in mind, you the cat

RichardBucket · 30/12/2016 22:34

Yes, don't worry Michelle. You've been much more gracious than the people berating you.

Michellelovesizzy · 30/12/2016 22:37

Lol never mind I should have worded things a bit better

zeezeek · 30/12/2016 22:45

I'm annoyed at what happened at the hotel, but it would be daft to be annoyed at a bunch of people on the internet responding to something I chose to share!

Besides I'm now back with my DH and looking forward to seeing the kiddies in the morning.

Why on Earth are people allowing their kids to run riot around a hotel for 7 straight hours? Firstly it's the hotels place to allow you to reasonably conduct your business with least disruption so YANBU in expecting that to happen. Secondly those poor kids having nothing fun to do except make their own fun unsupervised whilst parents sit drinking! Yes a few minutes noise and disruption is reasonable with kids in a hotel going in or out or mealtimes but 7 hours worth! Parents Definitely out of order. We often take kids away to all kinds of hotels but usually to Do something with them, not leave them marooned all day long inside a hotel! Complain to management and parents, not the kids if they try it on again tomorrow.

Plug123 · 31/12/2016 09:52

If this is a family hotel, which it sounds like, you don't have a leg to stand on, children are children, no matter what, they will run around and explore. Maybe pay extra and have a conference at an adult orientated hotel, or are your company too stingy!!! If these were my kids I would let them go anywhere as we have paid for the privilege and I Am sure English parents will not let their children run riot anywhere. Unlike some nations we have had the pleasure to come across on our travels. please book an adults hotel in future. Families with children pay a fortune like just adults as couples etc who,pay a lot lot less for their holiday!!!

RaspberryOverloadTheFirst · 31/12/2016 09:57

Plug123 I suggest you actually read the thread properly.

It's a chain hotel, not a little one, a hotel capable of hosting 400 people for a conference.

And just because you have paid, it does not give you any right to let your children do as they please. All the other guests have paid too.

MiladyThesaurus · 31/12/2016 10:02

I'm never quite sure why so many responses on MN struggle with basic comprehension. The OP said: 'It's got a reputation as being a place where conferences are held and business people stay, rather than a holiday type'. So it's not a family hotel. Sadly one with utterly useless management.

Even if it were a 'family hotel' that is no excuse to let your children run around disturbing everyone. Children do not have to run around and explore inside the hotel. Even in a 'family hotel' people have a responsibility to look after their children and ensure they don't disturb other guests. They can run around and explore in the park (or other suitable place for playing). If their parents are too selfish and lazy to take them out, then they need to keep them quiet and in one place.

If these were my kids I would let them go anywhere as we have paid for the privilege

Parents whose attitudes are all children are just children so I have no responsibility to monitor my children's behaviour spoil things for all families. Lazy and entitled English parents who let their children roam all over hotels unsupervised pissing off all the other guests are just as annoying as lazy and entitled parents of other nationalities. Having paid for something and having to pay more (because you brought more people) does not give you the right to do whatever you like. Take your children to the park to explore.

NewNNfor2017 · 31/12/2016 10:11

Has anyone told the OP to cancel the cheque? Confused

Bobochic · 31/12/2016 10:15

Both the parents of these children and the hotel management are to blame here. If a company rents hotel facilities for a conference it has every right to expect an environment conducive to doing business. Parents should always ensure their children are behaving in a way that does not interfere with other people.
