To merge our double barrelled surname.

Getting married next year. Both me and do have double barrelled surnames. For an example think : Mr smith-Brown, Miss Lloyd-bloggs.
We have dc, who have "Smith-Brown " as their surname.
When we marry, I would like to all become a mixture of the surname taking one name from each (long story but we basically have one part to each of our surnames which mean something) so becoming 'Lloyd-Smith'.
Eldest dc is preschool age so is now aware of last name, would it be easy enough to change It?
Is it even an option?

Not weird at all - DCs will learn the new one. You all get a new name, perfect!

I have a double barrelled name & I hate it (just makes people make assumptions about you etc), however some people love it! Also have a lot of friends who have double-barrelled their names when they got married/had kids & just think it is so shortsighted as all of them presumably will have similar issues to yours in the future.. However- in answer to your question- go for it, double barrelled names these days will have a one shot generation thing (unless future generations go for the quadruple-barrelled thing!) so enjoy it for yourselves & your kids until they marry!

It will just be a bit of paper work, no big deal, the kids will soon get used to it.

But this folks, is the reason we get married then have children.

Saves on paperwork later

😂

One surname from each sounds like a great idea.

It's how the Spanish name their children, btw. They keep their names and give children one from each parent.

Ignore any replies from the 1950s telling you to take his name or that double barrelled surnames are posh or a PITA (since you both have double barrelled surnames already I'm sure you know you can cope).

Oh and I forgot... "What WILL the next generation do?!"
