To expect an item to be the correct size when I collect my order

I was in a shop today and ordered a ring for my daughter. They did not have the ring in stock so have to order it. They also do not do the ring in my dds size but are able to resize it for her.... BUT .... when it comes in to the shop I have to go back in and then give the details for resizing. They were unable to take the details today as that is not "usual".

I have paid for this ring. I am now concerned that when it comes in they say they are unable to resize and I am left with a ring that is the wrong size. Also this shop is a bus ride away and I have to make an effort to go back again another twice to get the ring.

AIBU to expect to be able to order a ring in the size to fit in one visit to the shop?

YANBU but when they ring you to tell you the ring has arrived can you not give them the resizing instructions over the phone then?

ChristmasTreeKisses I might try that but she did say in the shop that we need to come in "to accept delivery" of the ring. BTW this is not a small independent it is a fairly well known chain.

It would be an exceptional ring that they cant resize, so i wouldnt worry. The big chain stores are the worst for this kind of thing.

I'm a bit surprised by this - when we picked out my engagement ring, I was told that it would have to be made specially because I have small fingers, and we'd picked an eternity band; resizing wouldn't have worked for it given the difference in size between their display model and my finger. It wasn't terribly expensive (lower end of three figures) and from a high st chain.

My guess would be that it is to do with terms and conditions for resizing as you would have to agree the condition the ring was in before it was resized. So if you find something wrong after, they know it is from the resizing process rather than the original manufacture.

You bought the ring in a standard size so you have to go in and 'collect it' or 'accept delivery' when it arrives in store.
They are offering two separate services it seems.

1. Selling you the product (order and delivery)
   
2. resizing
   
   When you have signed for it, it is then yours and you are free to get it resized either by the store that sold it to you or by someone else.
   
   Only when you have signed for it and it is in your possession will they send it to be resized. A piece of jewellery specially ordered in probably has some 'distance selling' law attached to it and they don't want to be lumbered with an altered ring which can be rejected by you.
