Given a present from MIL. Price left on, very expensive top in a size 16 (I'm a 10) No gift receipt. Is this a hint that I'm overweight?

Ha ha my mum used to gift me clothes 2-3 sizes too small and say "well when you finally lose weight hey'll fit"

Maybe she thinks your to thin and need to put on weight???

Why would you think this is a dig? Are you fishing for compliments OP? Obviously at a size 10 your not overweight. 🙄

I'd check the shop's website to see if it's current. It would be embarrassing to try and return a 4 year old item she's had for pennies from eBay.

I think you're missing the point...Right so a 3 times bigger than what you are then?

It doesn't matter how big you are you would still narrow your eyes at something so off what you are.

Most shops will exchange items if the price tag is still intact. Just take it to your nearest branch. Then wear the correct, exchanged size when you next see your MIL. If she makes no comment expressing surprise at the correct fit, it was an honest mistake.

Depends on the shop/actual size. I remember barely being able to fasten a pair of size 16 trousers in Topshop in my teens when I was a size 8 in most other shops.

gamer no actually I wouldn't bat an eyelid at it - people get sizes wrong. But interesting that you were obviously trying for an extreme example for effect.

This is about the millionth thread about shit presents and it seems nobody can do right whatever they buy.

Well size sixteen probably is overweight for most women, myself included at about three stone over, so why do other posters see it as a dig. The present was lazy either whether on wrong hanger or not.

This happened to me this year, presented my SIL with a lovely jumper on a size 8 hanger that was actually a size 12 we discovered when she tried it on. No one died as a result though...so I think we got away with it. You're overthinking what is obviously a mistake, unless you've actually chunked out OP Grin

I think people who are a 16 know that they are overweight...... I am and I do! No need for posters to get precious about it!

No, I was just sticking to the facts.

You did bat an eyelid and took offence to something that wasn't there. Or you wouldn't have posted about it. Confused

I'm 5ft 1 a size 16 would be well overweight on me. If at a size 10 I received an item of clothing 3 sizes too big I would be very perplexed. There isn't anything there to insult larger sizes.
