...That Next online is sold out of everything!!

BlueNeighbourhood · 26/12/2016 14:42

I thought I'd go online and look for a couple of new suits for my new job in January. And like hell am I going out today, the football is on tv!!

So went on and thought 'This is amazing, it's available in 8L (which never happens)' Went to the bag to be told sold out! I've tried it with other items and sizes and it's as if the website hasn't updated with things that are sold out. So everything is as if you can order until you go to pay.

Very lighthearted, just frustrating that I thought I was getting a lovely new suit for £32!!

But if you know there is a sale coming add /vip to their website address and it takes you to the page to book a slot

Ooh thank you!

mumsnit · 26/12/2016 17:10

Was vaguely toying with going to Next today but glad I didn't bother!!

I was really frustrated with M&S giving first dibs to Sparks VIPs as EVERYTHING decent has gone on their website today Shock I only needed a few bits but all sold out...

I don't understand how people have got money left after all the Christmas shopping? Hmm

UnicornPee · 26/12/2016 17:18

I went online at 3pm when it started on Xmas eve and everything I selected was out of stock. All within minutes of it supposedly starting. Why can't they remove it as soon as it's sold? I reckon it's all a lie to look good and get more people in the store on Boxing Day.

mumsnit · 26/12/2016 17:24

I reckon it's all a lie to look good and get more people in the store on Boxing Day.

I think you're right!

I generally have more luck with Next after the first few days of sales when all the returns come back!!

JemimaMuddledUp · 26/12/2016 18:03

Have people still not worked out that most sale items are just the utter shite they can't sell?

But surely the same could be said for any sale? Unless they are doing that sneaky tactic of selling things for 30 days in a handful of stores at full price them flooding all the stores with the stock at reduced price, the items on sale are stock that they haven't sold at the end of the season. So they have a "clearance" sale to get rid of them and make room for new season stock.

If you are very style conscious then wearing last season might be an issue. But I bought plain jeans, PJs, underwear, jersey tops and a couple of jumpers. All basics, and all stuff that I had spotted and liked at full price. In fact one of the jumpers is a different colourway of one that I bought back in September and have worn pretty much every week since.

I agree that the VIP thing is a con, but then so are most marketing campaigns. From Boden vouchers to Superdrug Loyalty Card offers, they are there to make you feel "special" and get you to spend money. Next is no different.

YouTheCat · 26/12/2016 18:08

Yes, it is true for pretty much all sales. I just don't understand why people are fooled by it.

TheoriginalLEM · 26/12/2016 18:14

What puzzles me is that people are sucked in by the next sale. It is full of substandard shite that you never see in store any other time. If you go to the outlet centre you'll see it, the labels sale made for the outlet centres or sales. Why would people queue up to buy that shite?

2014newme · 26/12/2016 18:17

I got lots of things at 6pm on 23Rd

BWatchWatcher · 26/12/2016 18:20

Also, Simon Wolfson, Next CEO voted to cut tax credits.
www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/tax-credits-some-of-britains-most-prominent-millionaires-among-peers-supporting-cuts-in-house-of-a6711591.html
Why give him your money?

mumsnit · 26/12/2016 19:48

Yes @BWatch - not great is it Angry

But sadly most of the CEOs of big retailers were openly pro austerity cuts including M&S, Boots and B&Q...

Scaredycat3000 · 26/12/2016 20:06

I only ever go in Next clearance shops. Many of their clothes are special purchase or rejects for their main stores/ made specially cheap for clearance shops. I rarely buy anything, very bland or calculated fashion. I don't get the hysteria round Next. Primark are often similar quality with much more choice and a third of the price whenever I need them not twice a year in a panic. They are very good at creating a buzz apparently. As a mother of young dc I got given a lot of Next and Gap stuff from the usual suspects above all other makes.

JemimaMuddledUp · 26/12/2016 20:11

I don't like Next clearance shops at outlet places. They really are a con - all the "special purchase" stuff that is made just for those shops. But I've never seen that in the actual store sale.

I kitted out DD's new bedroom in the autumn mid season sale and saved a fortune. The lines were back to full price the following week.

miserablesod · 26/12/2016 20:20

Most of the stuff in the Next sale i have never seen in the shop, its all shit.

I will only shop in Next for my kids if there isn't a sale on. The sale items are just rank.

ijustwannadance · 26/12/2016 20:22

I've noticed that, compared to a few years ago, they seem to have cut down massively on the volume of stock they actually produce so there is much less stock to go into sale.
The ebay resellers used to make a killing selling stuff to other countries, but even that's much less now.

I had a slot last week. The bedding I wanted had gone. All I ordered was a dress I had tried on a few months ago that wasn't worth full price and a few packs of tights for DD.

JemimaMuddledUp · 26/12/2016 20:45

Does it vary from store to store then? As my local Next seems to just sell stuff from the season that's coming to an end in their sale. I saw a few things on the rails that I bought back in September or October and lots that I've looked at in store over the past few months.

BlueNeighbourhood · 27/12/2016 20:14

Well you'll never guess...

I ventured into Next in our local town today. Two suit jackets remaining - one in my size! And my trousers in 8L as well. It was like Christmas had came again!! And my slippers I wanted for half price.

All in all a worthwhile trip, a brand new work suit for £32 (and a top and necklace to go with it that cost more than the suit!). Totally didn't expect that. However, there was barely any non sale items there which was annoying too. I wouldn't have minded having a look at the spring work stuff too!

mummy2be30 · 27/12/2016 21:18

Always happens to me I don't even bother booking a slot now no point..👎🏻👎🏻

londonrach · 27/12/2016 21:26

People dont still get up silly hour for next do they. They bring stuff in for the sale. Sometimes people bring things back but tbh sales arent what they used to be when i was a teenager. Better offers before xmas or in the clearance shops. M&s cake stand reduced £12 to £1.50 in the clearance shop before. Xmas.

HarryPottersMagicWand · 27/12/2016 22:21

I've heard that to continue getting VIP slots, you have to order in the previous sale, even if you send it back. If you have a slot and don't use it, they don't send you another one.

Oh and I'm laughing at the thought that Primark do similar quality clothes for a third of the price, uh no they don't! Primark quality is shit, I hate that shop. Their pyjama bottoms always feel like they are on backwards and they shrink massively so my lovely unicorn pyjamas are now halfway up my calves. Next at least lasts and feels decent. Last year I got DD some really lovely jumper dresses in the Next sale and DS got some decent t shirts in the summer sale. Was shite this time though.

The VIP sale is genuine catalogue items . I had the 5pm Thursday slot and bought a huge list of clothing items for nieces and nephews ! Half price 😎

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 27/12/2016 22:39

I don't bother looking on the Next VIP sale these days because even if you get one of the early slots most of the stuff I want seems to be sold out.

AndNowItsSeven · 27/12/2016 22:41

My VIP slot was Thursday, I got some nice bits for the dc.
