Just that really. I know that mn are unable to stop conversations being pilfered because this is a public forum. I have been a member of mumsnet for a decade (my DS1 is nearly 10 now) under various usernames.
It has, and remains to be, a great source of advice, information, amusement and often enlightenment. But its no longer a refuge. I can still post and comment about 'lighthearted' stuff but the big stuff - the lifechanging stuff that I really want an impartial opinion on - I dont feel able to post that any more.
I want to vent, rant, whatever, but it just can't happen in case its 'seen'. No namechange would hide my specific situation. It does make me sad :(

Well I'm outraged, offended, mortified and ashamed, they quoted me. I was called crude in their sidebar of shame, it's a new low for me. Imagine being called crude in a DM story next to one about Kim Kardashian?

I can't sink any lower now so I'll keep on posting. To any DM 'journalists' reading 💩😂💩

WorraLiberty · 26/12/2016 15:32

Holiday, I get what you're saying but that's where personal responsibility comes in.

If you're living with someone who is unhinged in that way, it's never a good idea to speak about them on a public forum.

The internet is stuffed full of other forums that aren't public, won't show up on Google, aren't run by mods who float threads/stories on FB and Twitter.

As much as Mumsnet is far bigger now and far more popular, we all have to remember that this is the public internet and always has been.

TiggyD · 26/12/2016 15:41

Couldn't Mumsnet go 'private' now? Would that mean people couldn't just copy and paste stuff for their papers? Charge a few pounds per year maybe? There's already 11 billion members so do we need the boost that free access gives?

TheNaze73 · 26/12/2016 15:41

It's normally only the sublime or the ridiculous that are lifted.

I think the vast majority of people that moan about the DM read it

ilovesooty · 26/12/2016 15:45

I agree with what Worra said. If you have an abusive partner using a public Internet forum to write about them is really unwise.
Use appropriate professional support if you need help.

And I speak as someone who left an abusive marriage.

WorraLiberty · 26/12/2016 15:52

Tiggy I think HQ would lose a shit ton from advertisers if they made MN private.

Advertisers pay for publicity, so I'm guessing that's one of their main reasons for using MN.

MyWineTime · 26/12/2016 15:53

I think if mumsnet wanted to they could stop the lifting of threads for special interest stories but they choose not to
No, they really can't - not without changing the whole foundation of the site from public to private.
Making it a private, members only paid site would drastically cut down on the traffic this site gets. It's never going to happen.
There are private sites out there if people want to use them, they have a lot less traffic though.

HolidaySpiritsReinbeerAndWhine · 26/12/2016 16:04

They could well start losing traffic in general, if people worry about anything they post being printed (and therefore stop posting). Most of the people who actually post on MN either seem to be the same old posters or trolls. The 'people in between' those two may well be put off posting if this place gets a reputation.

TiggyD · 26/12/2016 16:09

We all use AdBlock though Worra. Don't we?

ilovesooty · 26/12/2016 16:19

I don't.

Personal problems are such a very tiny part of MN, that I can't see it making any difference.

Tiggy, yes I use an adblocker but not everyone does. Besides, it's as though HQ has deliberately made the sit 'adblocker unfriendly', as I still get screen jump and a few other problems due to using one.
