The same every year, halved sponge squares spread with raspberry jam shoved into a glass bowl, sprinkled with exactly a sherry glass of sherry (yes, she had sherry glasses), followed by "That looks a bit mean " and then pouring half of the bottle of Cyprus sherry over the sponges, followed by Bird's custard, whipped cream added when set.
What always got me was the precise measuring, followed by the totally random splosh, every bloody year .
Tasted of nothing much than sherry!
But somehow I miss it.
