To wish there was a norovirus board so I could escape the ubiquitous sickness discussions?

There are few things more pleasant than my evening browse on MN. I always like to read Chat and AIBU in particular as they're so active. But it feels as if every other flippin' thread is about someone or their kids getting stomach bugs. As you've probably guessed, I'm an emetophobe (why the fuck are there so many of us on MN? Was this even a thing 20 years ago?), and reading these scares me rigid.

Sometimes you can tell from the thread title and make a decision on whether to read or not, but quite often the post title is something like "Not a great day", and before I know it, I'm reading about people being sick 80 times a night, collapsing in pools of vomit, worse illness they've ever had etc etc (possible exaggeration but c'mon, we've all read these threads...)

So MN, how about a special place for all these threads about vomiting so us snowflake emets can once again trawl MN in peace? Surely this is not unreasonable???

It's horrid. I know I shouldn't read them because it'll set my phobia off.

But it's like the horror story! Have to work out why, how and if I'm at risk. Can't do sick people!

I question my friends if they say they feel sick! Feel like a freak Flowers

What Ephemeral said.

I just hate this time of year in general. But the pukathon does appear to very much be in session, always fun for us emets. I'm getting through one day at a time.

Nobody is going to start a thread about being in rude health over the holidays. The perspective is obviously skewed towards dramatic accounts of sickness/illness, but I see where you're coming from. I'm sure having this phobia must make life worrying and uncomfortable. Flowers

My OP was half serious, half tongue in cheek. Of course people should be free to post anything they want, though as someone with this annoying phobia, it can be a bit anxiety provoking to read some of the threads. But I was poking fun at myself really. Anyway, let's all drink to many vomit free Christmasses to come - a sentiment both emets and non-emets can fully endorse I'm sure!

Guilty of posting on one of those threads. I have sympathy as I have arachnophobia and every Autumn is filled with threads, images (

ColdFeet - don't feel in anyway guilty. When me or my DD have had it, I'm the first one looking for sympathy and reassurance. I think MN is the natural place to find an outlet for these things. I think my only real moan is with people who post under a vague title: "My Xmas is ruined", and I click on it wondering if it's about a dodgy DH, bratty DC, in-laws etc only to find myself unsuspectingly facing a lurid tale of people being knocked off their feet by the force of the vomit leaving their stomachs etc etc.

I'm really sorry to hear your DD has been ill - shitty to happen at any time and especially today. I hope you can really enjoy the rest of the Christmas break to make up for missing out today.
