To drive to Dundee on Christmas day?

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 23/12/2016 16:06

From our home in Glasgow?
I just opened the door for a second and the wind and rain is crazy.
Christmas eve (tomorrow) is supposed to be milder and there's a weather warning (yellow) for storms on Christmas Day.
We were planning to drive to the inlaws in Dundee on Christmas Day. We should go tomorrow instead, shouldn't we?
What do other Scots think?

YABU to go to Dundee at all!
It's pretty stormy here in Edinburgh to I wouldn't come this way, sounds like it's less stormy the further up you go.

iveburntthetoast · 23/12/2016 19:21

I'm in Dundee (well, the Ferry.) It's reasonably quiet at the moment.

ALongTimeComing · 23/12/2016 19:22

At least if you want to bring up tomorrow would be quite helpful in that you don't need to worry about the Drive and you get your turkey on time.

AmIthatbloodycold · 23/12/2016 19:23

Sestra. What did you do to get blocked by Windy?

OhFuds · 24/12/2016 11:30

I thought of Sestra when this popped on my newsfeed Xmas Grin

I travel from Glasgow to Dundee twice a year, bus though for me as I don't drive. I love the journey. Xmas Smile

strawberryblondebint · 24/12/2016 12:00

Hello Ferry and Carnoustie people. I'm in Monifieth

MrsReiver · 24/12/2016 12:04

😂 Never thought I'd see Windy on mumsnet.

liz70 · 24/12/2016 12:08

Already booked my bus and hotel for next month. Couldn't get the Shaftesbury Xmas Sad so I'm slumming it in the Travelodge on West Marketgait.

SheSparkles · 24/12/2016 14:34

Hello other Ferry people 😄

GruochMacAlpin · 24/12/2016 14:37

Come on Sestra spill the beans!

RockyBird · 24/12/2016 14:42

The roads are always great on Xmas day. My ILs used to travel north from Glasgow every Xmas day. FIL loved it as the roads were so quiet

basher77 · 24/12/2016 14:54

Hey fellow Dundee folk!!

MrsPeelyWally · 24/12/2016 19:51

PurpleNurple69 · 24/12/2016 20:39

Look at all these MNers in Dundee!

Grin
TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 24/12/2016 20:43

and I'm further up in Montrose! :o

Weather's been a bit breezy, but nothing like they were forecasting. I want snow!!

PurpleNurple69 · 24/12/2016 20:47

It was worse here yesterday. I left the confines of the house and got drenched nipping out to the (detached) garage which is about 6 steps away.

Not that we keep a car in it. Nope. That's where the booze is kept - just as good as a fridge in winter!

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 25/12/2016 19:21

Well we made it safely. Wind was a bit underwelming after all that. Thank for your I'm put Smile

YABU to drive/walk/hike to Dundee.

Nobody would go to Dundee voluntarily.

Grin

I prefer Perth.

Or Pitlochry.

Anywhere but Dundee...

Disclaimer - I am a Taysider born and therefore allowed to dislike Dundee. Wink

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 25/12/2016 19:30

Nobody would go to Dundee voluntarily.

I had a job interview in Dundee a few years ago.

One of the first questions from interview panel:

So what is it that attracts you to Dundee?

Hello there! We just drove from Glasgow to Dundee yesterday so I'm biased Grin but I think Dundee is a great place to be.

Salmotrutta · 25/12/2016 19:33

In all honesty?

I bloody hate Dundee.

It's grim.

Ginmakesitallok · 25/12/2016 19:35

Dundee is not grim. It's a fantastic wee city with loads going for it.

ohmygodyouguys · 25/12/2016 19:35

Hi fellow Dundonians! Didn't know there were so many of us!
