Iv had this probelm for a few months.. at one point got rid if them then they reapeared.
Iv spent well over a 150 on stuff.
Iv treated cat.. she had begun to lose hair and done the whole flat every week

Today i moved my bed out to clean under it. Steam mop it and to spray and bomb the place again

My partner is also allergic to them so gets bit and its not v pleasent at all. The past 2 3 weeks hea only got a xouple of bites so i think im winning

But after today if thia doesnt work im seriousely going to cry.

The cat has NO fleas on her at all. Her fur has grown back i am at a lose to what else to do. Shes eveb a inside fucking cat so no idea how she got em them in the first place.
I also have one of thouse lamps that the fuckers are suppossed to be attravted to.. 20 quid and the fucker dont work or the fuckers are smart.
Iv tried sprays.. floggera... powder.. bombs.. all sorts of brands.

So hellllppp please munsnet... what other ideas have u got

We used Indorex as well as a guy from the council (we're not actually council tenants but they still did it) that cost £60 for consultation and treatment. Ds still has really sore looking bites and they're from 6 weeks ago. Horrid fleas.

I'm surprised treating the cat hasn't done it!

Whenever we've had fleas, we treat the cat with a good flea treatment. NOT frontline

Within a week no more fleas

altiara · 22/12/2016 19:19

I bought strong flea spray from the vets to do my flat when I moved in and was bitten all the time. At least I think I did, was s long time ago.

CheshireChat · 22/12/2016 19:31

Indorex and advantage did it for us. And our cat got the fleas from us!

RIP FLeas is a brilliant spray, as is Indorex. I don't know if you can get Serestro collars for cats like you do for dogs. They're apparently very effective.

You need to treat every two weeks, the whole place, don't forget to spray along skirting board cracks, soft furnishings etc, room at a time as a pp mentioned. Only use products from the vet to put on the cat and yes, Frontline drops are ineffective now. Unfortunately, if she hunts and is an outdoor cat, she will probably keep picking them up. Turning on heating tends to wake up the eggs/life cycle.

wonderingsoul · 22/12/2016 19:49

If it was bedbugs surely i would be bit to? And the kids when they get in?
Dp is the only one effeccted by it in any way. No havnt seen any for weeks and even then it was only one or two.

How do you get bed bugs too?

Indorex and advantage worked for us as well. I'd tried everything, three months later someone suggested this stuff... Wow one treatment and no more fleas! Best of luck!

avengerhart85 · 22/12/2016 22:31

Try diametresis (sp?!) earth it's a powder that is safe for humans/cats/dogs nine toxic & it dries a fleas body out so it dies. You can use it on carpets beds and sprinkle it on the cat and brush it in I get it from amazon if you Google it that tells you all about how it works

HolyStoneOfClonrichert · 22/12/2016 22:41

Indorex definitely

Diatomaceous earth kills fleas in the home and on pets, but buy food grade if you treat your cat. It is a fine white powder and is messy but it kills the fleas. If you use a flea treatment do read about the chemicals that are in it as they can cause damage to the nervous system. If you use a spray do not inhale it, get a mask. It is nasty stuff.

I once had to treat a flat that I had just moved into, in those days all we could get was Fullers Earth, lived in white dust for a while but it worked.

alipia · 22/12/2016 23:27

I feel for you we had same 5 years ago. Spent £200 on rentokil they found nothing. We finally Realised it was fleas. Spent almost another £200 on bug bombs before finding acclaim. That and determined hoovering every day got rid of them. Vile things!

previously1474907171 · 22/12/2016 23:45

Put a flea collar in your vacuum bag too, otherwise they will breed in there.

wonderingsoul · 28/12/2016 12:04

Would just like to update and say iv not had to burn the flat down... or buy anything else....

Sunce i pulled the bed and dryer out and flea bombed again dp has not been bit....

Im free of the fuckers.

Im prettty sure it was just a few straglers under the bed that kept reproducing.... but theve been deaded.

Thank you for everyones advice. I will keep the info for the furture if needed

You need to treat the environment as well as the cat, fleas don't breed on the animal they breed in the environment. Most flea treatments will only kill adult fleas on the animal, that leaves the hundreds, if not thousands, still in the environment.

Frontline, or anything containing fipronil used to be brilliant but fleas have developed a resistance to it that seems to be worse in some areas than others.

Advocate is a good flea treatment and long term will keep the environment flea free. It is a presecription only spot on treatment so you will have need to have seen the vet within the past year to buy it. Its quite expensive but effective.

I understand that fumigation might not be an option due to costs but sometimes that is the only thing that works.

In the meantime get some INDOREX or ACCLAIM from pets at home, and spray the flat. This will sort out any larvae or eggs. The pupae may hatch so you might need to do it again in a few weeks.

If you have frontlined, leave two weeks before applying advocate.

TheoriginalLEM · 28/12/2016 12:13

oh, that will teach me to rtft, glad you are now the only residents in your flat now!

iknowimcoming · 28/12/2016 14:39

Just a thought op, but if it's only your dp getting bitten and you haven't seen them recently, are you sure they aren't at his workplace or somewhere else he frequents? Pub/club friends house or similar maybe? Seems very odd that an indoor cat would get fleas imo, someone or something must have given them to the cat In the first place, also if he hasn't been bitten recently is that because he's been off work/away from usual haunts over Christmas? Glad you seem to be on top of it now, but I'd be on the look-out when your dp goes back to work or whatever if it were me.

trickycat · 28/12/2016 16:06

I often wondered if there were a few in my car when I had them!

CheshireChat · 30/12/2016 02:45

I wonder if some animals attract fleas more? One of my mum's dogs is nicknamed fleabag for a reason and he is virtually never completely clear. None in the house though.

I know insects prefer certain people as my DM and DP get bitten by all sorts whereas I'm fine as long as they're around! Though I'm a spider magnet and have been bitten many times :-(.

Autumnchill · 30/12/2016 02:55

Glad you got it sorted, I know how infuriating they are! We've just managed to get rid of a mild breakout by having the cats treated with Stronghold. Forget Frontline!

Southsearocks · 30/12/2016 02:59

Still, get some Indorex and spray everywhere. It will last ages. It was the ONLY spray that worked when we had an infestation like yours. Glad you are flea free!
