Just wondering what you all think really... my wee girl is 13 months old and she's not really "into" toys and what-not just yet! So I've found it hard to decide what to get her for Xmas

I've got her:

  • Toot toot friends kingdom palace
  • Beat Belle
  • Leapfrog picnic basket
  • Vtech learning table
  • Vtech kitten and carrier

Plus a bomber jacket, dress and new pjs...just beating myself up that it's not enough! We've had a shit year and money's pretty tight!Blush

Did you watch channel 5's Christmas excess programme, I couldn't sleep last night and it was on I watched it like this Shock seriously, less is more.

GinIsIn · 22/12/2016 10:48

Take a deep breath, and calm down. You've got her lovely things! She's ONE. Can she count? No? Then she won't know it's 'only' 5 presents anyway! Your DD will have a lovely Christmas, don't spoil it by worrying when you are doing just fine! Xmas Smile

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 22/12/2016 10:48

PeachB - don't be fooled. Once you have your child those bastard things will drive you mental after the first couple of hours Grin

mistermagpie · 22/12/2016 10:48

That's about the same as I've got for 17mo DS. I know family have bought him loads of stuff and to be honest, he is still a bit little to appreciate a huge pile of presents so I'm happy with what we have bought. This morning the boy was having a whale of time with a cardboard box and a plastic fork, so to be fair, I could have saved my money!

Champagneformyrealfriends · 22/12/2016 10:50

We're giving 9mo dd the gifts we'd have bought her anyway-a walker, stacking cups, a shape sorter, somebooks. We've not bought her much though-she won't know!

Redcrayons · 22/12/2016 10:50

You've got many many years of Christmas lists the size of Argos catalogue to come. Make the most of not having to buy into now.

noeffingidea · 22/12/2016 10:54

I think that's more than enough, and absolutely nothing to feel bad about. Christmas isn't a competition you know, to see whose child has the most presents.
IME babies get on better with one or two new toys at a time, so I regarded christmas presents as a time to stock up for the whole year, so I would probably have put some away and brought them out again over the next 12 months.

BITCAT · 22/12/2016 10:54

At that age they really don't want or need more. What you have sounds lovely. You should not feel bad. Mine are much older and they don't have that much either. They have around 4/5 presents each they are expensive as they get older. I have a range of 11-18. Enjoy she will be delighted.

user1482343889 · 22/12/2016 10:54

To be honest that is OTT especially at that age, I normally buy my child 1 present at the most 2, when he was 16 months old bought him a Fisher Price laugh and learn puppy. You are setting up expectations that will increase with age.

user1480946351 · 22/12/2016 10:54

I've got ONE present for my 15 month old DD. She's a baby, she hasn't a clue what christmas is or what presents are, and she can't count.
You'll spend enough in years to come, and you'll wish then that you saved your money!

TheTartOfAsgard · 22/12/2016 10:55

My dd had over 30 presents to unwrap on her 1st Christmas.

She was 10 weeks old. Blush

I learnt my lesson

Hoppinggreen · 22/12/2016 10:56

These threads make me so sad, there have been a few lately.
People who are struggling with money and who feel bad because their child "only" has 3/4/25 presents!!!
I bloody hate what Christmas has become

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 22/12/2016 10:56

You're not worried about what your daughter will think. You're worried about what people on Facebook will think. Please stand up to the madness. You have bought her loads.

BadToTheBone · 22/12/2016 10:56

I find a lot of the people who post pics of the massive piles have wrapped literally everything the child will need for the next year. I buy them stuff throughout the year instead, as and when they need it. What your dd needs now at 13n is very different to what she'll need at 18m and you'll find you want to buy her things at that time, so do it then.

MistressMolecules · 22/12/2016 10:59

That is more than enough at that age! If she is anything like my daughter was last Christmas (she was 11.5 months) then all she will be interested in anyway is the paper and boxes! Xmas Grin

sophiestew · 22/12/2016 11:00

Gosh yes agree with PP - enjoy while it lasts - won't be long before she is writing huge lists.

She won't have a clue and will be very happy with what she gets. Please don't feel bad, there is really no need.

MrsderPunkt · 22/12/2016 11:01

If it helps, my 8 month old got a book for his first Christmas.

SharingMichelle · 22/12/2016 11:02

Gosh that's loads.

My 4yo has 1 present from us - a big teddy bear. It cost a tenner. It's what she really wants and she'll be thrilled. We aren't hard up this year and could get her 12 other things to go with it, but why would you??

nocampinghere · 22/12/2016 11:06

that's similar to what i've got my older children
i just don't go in for the mounds of presents.
i buy them things through the year, i don't "save" them up for birthdays/christmas. Both have had phones, nice clothes, jackets, pjs, boots, books etc.. as and when they've needed them.

dingdongthewitchishere · 22/12/2016 11:07

Parents see Christmas differently. I am with noeffingidea, we got a fair amount of presents at Christmas time, but they are for the whole year, we only buy more at birthdays. Other parents only buy a present or 2, but they buy things regularly during the year.

I disagree with posters saying that kids only play with the wrapping and boxes. Mine never really did, and really enjoy the toys! It sounds like yours will have a lovely Christmas.

nocampinghere · 22/12/2016 11:07

oh and obvs i haven't bought my 10 and 13 year olds vtech etc... just a similar amount !

Idontknow123 · 22/12/2016 11:08

So glad I spotted this thread I've been wondering if I've bought enough. There does seem to be so much pressure to buy buy buy!

My 19 month old I've bought - Read to me violet, ballerina Emmi doll, lego animals set, soft elephant toy, 3 x books, and a few bits and bobs in a stocking.

My 3 month old I've bought - a cloth book, a wrist rattle and a teething toy.

HoHoHammered · 22/12/2016 11:09

Idont

I read that as you has bought a teething toy, wrist rattle and cloth book for your 3 year old. I was like what? Grin

CottonSock · 22/12/2016 11:10

Its loads. When the relatives stuff gets added you will have a mountain of stuff to put away. My dd is 3.5 and I've got her a few things plus stocking.

Northend77 · 22/12/2016 11:10

That really is plenty! When my twins were 14 months at Christmas last year they really didn't get much (mainly because we'd had a party for their 1st birthday and the house was swamped with toys from that!). They were more interested in the boxes and paper than anything else so they mainly got money and vouchers, some of which we STILL haven't spent!!

They are much more into presents this year but I have still held back somewhat (birthday only 2 months ago, stuff bought through the year and a small house!). They love opening presents more than what's inside so I have opened their Toot Toot stuff and wrapped the vehicles and animals individually!!

Next year I'm sure I'll be getting demands on what they'd actually like so make the most of the first couple of Christmasses where you don't have this!!
