My sister has gone bat shit crazy on so called healthy good. She keeps saying that cheese is a junk food. How long earth can it be a junk food? It's full of vitamins, calcium and other good stuff. The government advice for children is to have 3 portions of dairy every single day, so cheese can not possibility be a junk food.

scholes no idea why mild cheddar exists. Totally with you on the all but goats cheese. It always reminds me of melted plastic -shudder-

I don't get mild cheddar either. But I'm sure during the war it was the only cheese widely available.

Cheese is very high in fat and salt. Yes, we need fat - but even if you tried, it would be very difficult to cut fat out totally, given that even grains contain some. Also a lot of people eat processed cheese, which is not healthy. You can get calcium from other foods that aren't processed: eggs, fish. The bottom line: while I would not call cheese exactly "junk food" (= potato crisps, hamburgers, ice cream, doughnuts, etc.), I would not call it exactly healthy either. In moderation it's ok (but then so are junk foods).

depends on the cheese, not all are high in salt or sodium
