Grand Slam tennis champion.
Fed cup winner.

Knife held to her throat, she could have been killed.
tennis playing h and damaged so much she's had to have surgery.

But according to the news/newspapers, (apart from the Berlin tragey obviously):

the Queen posing for a photo with Charles.
Kate and Meghan fashion stakes.
katy Price something or other.
The Queen stepping down from some charities even though the other royals will take over.
Xmas traditions.
entertainment news.
India in front on the cricket.

not till page 22 of the express is there a mere mention of Kvitova.
and on the news a little bit squeezed in .

FFS the poor girl could have been killed. she wasn't, so that's okay then not to be important?
If Andy Murray slipped and sprained his ankle hed have been headline, no?

just wonder how newspapers and tv make prioritiees. shes a top sportswoman.

yes, I kNow Berlin and the REussian ambassador and Brexit are important, but to put PK so low down on middler pages of a paper and a teeny paragraph on the sports pages, not even back page news?

"I am not sure who reads newspapers any more"

People my MIL's age. She is nearly 88 and thinks a mouse is something cats chase after. I buy the local paper every Friday because it isn't published online, but I don't buy national newspapers any more.

NerrSnerr · 21/12/2016 19:36

If you want to read about news then don't read the Express. It's just a tabloid that likes sensationalist headlines. I'm actually surprised there wasn't more about the weather in the week before Christmas in the Express.

CockacidalManiac · 21/12/2016 19:37

I always wondered who read that shite paper.
First two dozen pages no doubt full of the evil immigrants, Diana and Maddie McCann.

Beebeeeight · 21/12/2016 19:42

News is all just propaganda anyway.

britbat23 · 22/12/2016 01:43

Non-British tennis player gets hand cut in robbery gone wrong. Will survive. Will play tennis again. Hold the front page.

It is NOTHING like the on-court attempted murder of Monica Seles.

Maybe get some sort of sports magazine if you want to read about every sprain. The rest of us would be glad if there was less bloody sports "news" on TV.

Happens to women ( and men) all over the world daily

Just because she plays tennis makes it newsworthy

I worked 12 hours yesterday and saw the news for about 20 minutes yesterday morning. It was mentioned on there.

A bit of a nasty generalisation there, NicknameUsed! I am 52 and dh is 53 - he reads the paper every day, and I read it every day except Sunday (I don't like the Sunday Times, but dh does, so that is what we buy).

We are both computer savvy, know exactly what a mouse is, and like to get our news from a variety of sources - the papers, TV and radio news and the internet.

Reading the papers means I get to see a wide variety of stories - I don't necessarily read every one, but I do see stories in the paper that I don't see anywhere else - maybe they are not popular enough to be widely shared online, and not important enough to make the cut for the TV and radio news - but they are still interesting and informative.

I also enjoy doing the killer sudoku, and the polygon word puzzle - I like the other puzzles in the Times 2 too, but there are so many of them that I could spend most of every day doing them - and that would eat into my MN time FAR too much!

It was one of the top stories on sky news yesterday. we have tv screens in our canteen and it was mentioned every time i went in.
