The kids dad just turned up to collect DD1 he dropped off a bag of presents, even tho he originally said he'd be here on Christmas eve to drop them. He adds as he's leaving that there are gifts for me in the bag!!!!!
What!!!!!
We never ever buy presents for each other since splitting 6 years ago. And even when we were together he forgot my birthday two years and never bothered with a gift for Christmas until he was badgered by his and my mum.

How do I take this? I have no intention of getting him anything.

Based on your first post, I'd say just open them, say thank you when you next see him and move on. Based on your follow-up that you are going through a court case and he was abusive during your marriage, I'd say open them, decide whether you want to keep them, and just say nothing. If he specifically says 'Did you like the presents?' then just say 'Yes, thank you, I'm just a bit bemused as it's not something we've done before and it's probably easier for us both if we don't make a habit of it.'

By the way, I think I would be inclined to open them tonight when the kids have gone to bed, rather than on Christmas morning. I'm sure it's nothing weird, but if he has been manipulative/abusive in the past I suppose there's a very small chance they might be something inappropriate/embarrassing/calculated to freak you out.

Do your children get him Christmas presents? My brother's ex wife buys a present for him 'from the children' because they're a bit young to get things for him themselves. If you pay for a gift for him that's from the children, perhaps someone has just pointed out to him (in light of the court case) that he should try to appear reasonable/polite by getting you something in return. Does he have a girlfriend? If so, do you think she might have suggested this to him?
