They seem to be keeping it a bit quiet...

Fuller report here (not a DM link)

Ha! Serves them right, and it's about time they were called to account for the hateful bile they pour out (particularly regarding Muslims)

Ditto Daily Fail.

DeepanKrispanEven · 19/12/2016 15:45

I'm sure the Mail would want their apology to have wider circulation, so here's the link. And before that accidentally disappears off their site, it's copied below. Given the way they constantly nick copy off MN, I'm sure they'll be delighted.

The Mahmood family – an apology
By Mailonline
PUBLISHED: 00:00, 19 December 2016 | UPDATED: 00:00, 19 December 2016

An article published in Katie Hopkins' column on 23 December 2015 ('Just because Britain's border security is a Mickey Mouse operation you can't blame America for not letting this lot travel to Disneyland – I wouldn't either') suggested that Mohammed Tariq Mahmood and his brother, Mohammed Zahid Mahmood, are extremists with links to Al Qaeda; that their purported reason for visiting the USA – namely to visit Disneyland – was a lie; and that US Homeland Security were right to prevent them from boarding their flight. We are happy to make clear that Tariq Mahmood and Zahid Mahmood are not extremists, nor do they have links to Al Qaeda. They were travelling to the USA with their families to see one of their brothers for a holiday in California and they had indeed planned to visit Disneyland as part of their trip.

In addition a further article in Katie's column on 29 December ('A brave Muslim tried to warn us their week about the extremists taking over his community. What a tragedy it is that our PC politicians would rather not know') suggested that Hamza Mahmood (Mohammed Tariq Mahmood's son) was responsible for a Facebook page which allegedly contained extremist material. Our article included a photo of the family home. Hamza Mahmood has pointed out that he is not responsible for the Facebook page, which was linked to him as a result of an error involving his email address. We are happy to make clear that there is no suggestion that either Hamza nor Taeeba or Hafsa Mahmood (Hamza's mother and sister) have any links to extremism.

We and Katie Hopkins apologise to the Mahmood family for the distress and embarrassment caused and have agreed to pay them substantial damages and their legal costs.

What an unpleasant alliance she and the mail make. Thanks for alerting us to a pathetic attempt at a forced apology..

Rubies12345 · 19/12/2016 16:00

*In a few weeks, jack Monroe is taking her to court too!

Good luck Jack! Rinse her dry! smile*

These professional trolls are all as bad as each other. They need to get real jobs.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 19/12/2016 16:06

Good the family had some redress.

I feel sorry for Katie Hopkins, she looks like she has a personality disorder and the papers take advantage of that. The whole situation gives her notoriety and wealth but it must be a nightmare for anybody who cares about her (I think she has children, am assuming she has parents?? or someone out here that gives a damn about her).

amispartacus · 19/12/2016 16:09

The Daily Mail printing lies about people and other people tweeting them. Surely not Grin

I am sure she won't learn anything from this.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/12/2016 16:11

bbc have picked it up

Even at 2am you can't hide online.

LarkDescending · 19/12/2016 16:14

I have no sympathy whatsoever for Hatie and those who publish her revolting diatribes, and wish she would just emigrate already.

user1471451327 · 19/12/2016 16:16

Katie Hopkins has been at the lying again today thesecretbarrister.com/2016/12/19/katie-hopkins-and-the-judiciary-another-pointless-lie/

Flanderspigeonmurderer · 19/12/2016 16:20

Well that's not really her saying "I apologise" is it, it's just the DM apologising and including her in it.
She's not sorry for a second. She believes all the crap she spews from her arsehole, sorry, mouth.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/12/2016 16:23

that is sadly true Flanders. I wonder if she had to contribute to any of the damages, or whether the mail paid it all off.

LouiseBrooks · 19/12/2016 16:26

What an abhorrent woman she is. Unfortunately I doubt if she had to put her hand in her own pocket.

I feel sorry for her kids and God knows how her husband puts up with her.

OlennasWimple · 19/12/2016 16:34

I'd imagine that the DM paid for this themselves - they are ultimately the ones who published it, and presumably they have a legal team who help ensure that they (mostly) stay the right side of the line and a budget in place to pay out on the times when they don't. The size of the fine isn't enough to put a serious dent in their coffers

I understand that her parents are actually rather nice, normal people.

amispartacus · 19/12/2016 16:39

Don't worry Katie. Your apology is safe. 2am is a great time to tweet it because no one will notice. except the entire internet

hackmum · 19/12/2016 16:41

The Mail is worse, because they give her a platform. And they will have known that they risked a libel action. They will either have run it past their lawyers and ignored their advice, or not even bothered to run it past the lawyers - perhaps assuming that the family weren't wealthy enough to sue.

originalmavis · 19/12/2016 16:46

This is what happens when you employ Hopkins as a columnist arf

wasonthelist · 19/12/2016 16:47

I wish people would just stop buying the paper/clicking on the website. Then they would go out of business.

DisappointingBanana · 19/12/2016 16:53

Good news, but won't make a difference: you can't shame the shameless.

originalmavis · 19/12/2016 16:56

There will come the day when the newspaper won't find her amusing or outrageous or whatever the hell she is supposed to be, and turn on her and shred her. I'm lookimg forward to that.

Karma is a bitch even though we do need our pantomime villains. Oh Lord Sugar Alan, what did you unleash on the world with that one?

I'm sure the 2am thing won't be an issue if we keep mentioning it.

dingdongthewitchishere · 19/12/2016 16:59

With 1,510,824 print sales (haven't checked the figures) there's a fair way to go before they go out of business.

NotYoda · 19/12/2016 17:28

Thankyou for drawing this to our attention

This atrocious cunt's ignorant bile deserves to be outed more widely

originalmavis · 19/12/2016 17:30

To paraphrase father Jack Hackett "how'd that gobshite get in the papers?".

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 19/12/2016 17:40

She's vile but I kind of hope that JM doesn't win - they are even more attention seeking than KH

viques · 19/12/2016 17:43

Brilliant, she really is the most revolting creature. I don't think I would last one minute in her head without vomiting the entire contents of my body How do her kids live with the shame of having her as their mother

originalmavis · 19/12/2016 18:09

I do feel sorry for her kids though.

When they realise that isn't all people being horrid about mummy, mummy playing a meanie character to make people think, mummy writing literature fit to win a nobel prize, or whatever she tells them is going on, I would love see how they react.
