Ore is a good dancer, however I think Danny is and was just brilliant tonight with Oti. Smile

I thought Ore was the best performer on the night....so I wasn't surprised he won. I didn't vote though.

I agree about the ridiculousness of "fix" allegations. Why on earth would anyone bother? What advantage is there in it? It's only a TV programme, it's not exactly life-changing, is it?

The plain fact is that the person who dances best through the series quite often fails to win - there was quite an interesting section on ITT this week where they looked at the statistics and pointed to a number of series where the person with the highest overall scores didn't win, including Ricky Whittle, Zoe Ball, Denise van Outen and Natalie Gumede.

Ore was the only one who didn't have dance experience, so I think he was the fair winner considering how much he'd improved. His technique, attention to detail and style are absolutely incredible. I don't think I've ever seen a complete novice improve so quickly. Len's right - he is the spirit of Strictly.

I loved Danny and Oti's performances and he really is an incredible dancer. There is no reason why he couldn't become professional and compete, if that's what he wanted to do (same with Ore to be honest). His acrobatic elements are particularly impressive and their samba was a visual triumph. Oti is a superb, first-class choreographer and I see very, very bright things for her future. She's only 26 and creating performances like that.

Louise is very, very likeable and she's so improved, but I don't think she was in the same league as Ore and Danny. I found her latin a little bit lacklustre. Her paso doble and tangos were stunning - I wish she'd done her paso in the final instead of the cha cha.

I'll miss Len next year...who's going to replace him? I'd love it to be Anton or Karen.

I agree Ore made the most progress, but his constant crying was annoying as fuck.

Ha, that's true. Also, I felt really uncomfortable when he kept saying he loved Joanne. Obviously they've bonded and everything, but it's so over-familiar. "I've fallen in love with you", "I love you with all my heart", "I've met my best friend" etc. I'm sure there's nothing in it at all but it'd still upset me if I was his wife.

Due to Will Young dropping out of the competition we were down to 3 finalists. This meant that the programme was padded out with a lot of filler and was rather lacklustre because of it. I did wonder how much of my licence money they spent flying Gene Kelly's widow over and thought that showed they were favouring Ore unfairly.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 18/12/2016 10:11

Sunnymeg probably very little of your licence money went to flying Gene Kelly's widow over....maybe somewhere in the region of 0.000000000001%?

I like three couple finals tbh - it makes more sense than having a quarter of the original cast making it to the final... They've only done four couple finals recently because if people do drop out then two person finals doesn't work that well.

I had no favourite this year - i thought the finalist were fairly evenly matched - with different qualities. I wasn't mad keen on Ore (got a bit fed up of the tears and faux humility) but he danced well on the night. I think he was a bit more 'love him or hate him' than the other tow which probably worked in his favour because his fan base will have come out and voted.

And to be fair - although I love Oti and would have loved her to win - Danny messed up his quickstep in a big way - maybe that lost it for him.
I also thought giving Louise the flash dance routine wasn't in her favour - I found it a bit cringy, would rather she had been given her paso or american smooth to do again.

It is so easy to record things now, and people must know that not everyone can watch a programme when it is broadcast.

It wouldn't have been too hard for the OP to have left the spoiler out of the thread title, so that people who hadn't watched it yet had the choice whether or not to click on the thread.

I am sure it was not maliciously done - I suspect she was excited by the final, and couldn't wait to discuss the outcome - nothing wrong there - so started the thread and genuinely didn't think about the spoiler in the title.

But knowing she's spoiled something for others, and being so blase and don't-care about it, is not pleasant to see. The decent thing to do would be to apologise.

Yes, it is just a TV programme, and yes there are other spoilers out there, and no, it is not the end of the world - but people have been following this for weeks, building up to watching the final and finding out the result at the end of that, and to have the result revealed in a spoiler is a disappointment for them.

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 18/12/2016 14:13

If they built up to watching the final for weeks, wouldn't they then have watched the final? Confused

Not if they were at work, or out somewhere unavoidable, or busy dealing with children - there are any number of bloody obvious perfectly plausible scenarios that mean someone might not be able to watch the grand final of something they'd been following from the start.

Ore was my favourite early on, so glad he won. I watched it on iPlayer late last night and ignored all social media until it had finished.

The only people apologising should be the piley-inners who obviously have some serious TV addiction thing going on if their whole world falls in because they miss a programme and then find out inadvertently what happened....

PS It was Kristen that shot JR.

Yes, it is only a to programme - but the thread title has spoiled some people's enjoyment of the final. I think that is not nice. And just because you don't care about such things, it isn't OK to spoil them for peop,e who do care.

And if you upset someone by accident, it is good manners to apologise - even if you wouldn't have been upset in similar circumstances.

TV programme - bloody autocorrect.

Voted Ore. Loved him coming from no experience and found Danny arrogant in the beginning plus he's clearly going to get a career in the west end out of this anyway.
Loved Louise's confidence development but Ore brought more oomf and showmanship.
Having said that there was no one that I would have been miffed about winning which is a great strictly final. Such a great show that they all get something out of and love being a part of... well, except Will Young 😂

Yes I get that, but in days gone by, people would just have shrugged and said "Oh well I missed it, never mind" rather than built it up into this great personal let down if they inadvertently stumble upon the terrible truth. Does everyone else now have to avoid discussions about a light entertainment programme until everyone who is likely to overhear might have found the time to sit down and watch? As I said in my first post, how long are they obliged to wait?

I don't understand the thing about spoilers.

If I want to avoid a score/result the onus is on me to avoid the Internet not other people to not talk about it!

Report
KurriKurri · 18/12/2016 14:53

Maybe an idea to post about TV programmes in Telly addicts, then people who would like not to see spoilers (and it is only the next day - so not totally unreasonable for people not to have viewed yet) can avoid that section of the site.

People do tend to look at AIBU all the time and it is hard to avoid accidentally seeing something if it is in an unexpected place.

There is dedicated Strictly thread in Telly Addicts.

Jacques - no-one is saying don't talk about it - all they are saying is please avoid spoilers in the title of a thread. Discuss it to your heart's content in the thread.

OK - so spoilers don't matter to many of you. Is it so hard to understand that some people don't like them, and to avoid obvious ones (i.e. in thread titles)? Why is that so hard?

Why do we need a spoiler warning for sonething that's already been broadcast? hmm

Because a lot of people don't get to watch everything live, and it's just a simple, basic, common courtesy to not spoiler things like that. Competitions for a few days, at least, and anything that's a twist, finale, or cliffhanger for months, and movies in theaters until they've been on home video for a while--at least.

There's never really any call to put major spoilers in a topic line, even on an old film/show, as there's always new generations of people who haven't seen it. They should get a chance to have the same viewing experience as we did (meaning doing into it not knowing the ending/big twist!). (The exception being the stuff that's just pop culture now--Soylent Green is people, Vader is Luke's father, etc.)
