My friend is going to call in sick on Boxing Day

My friend works in retail on Oxford Street. Somehow he managed to get the week leading up to Christmas off. But it was on the understanding he must work Boxing Day.

He doesn't want to work that day so he has repeatedly said he's just going to call in sick Xmas Shock

AIBU in thinking that's a bit of a dick move? And it will be really obvious he's not ill as he requested the day off initially.

My point aldrin and basic - was perhaps clumsily expressed at the end of a frustrating day dealing with an employee who would appear to be taking the piss out of us and our other staff members. All this despite our efforts to provide a fair and generous working environment, so my point is really that some posters have not bothered to even find out whether the employer in question is one of those nasty, exploitative corporations or whether in fact, the employer is a pretty fair, honourable organisation. They appear to have immediately assumed the former!

I once worked with someone who tried to get the Monday after her fortnight off in the summer as holiday too, as it would have made the flight much cheaper. It was not approved. She phoned in sick on that Monday at a time when she wouldn't get the manager and would have to pass the message through the receptionist. Later that day (at her desk, picking up her work) I saw that she actually had "sick" written on her calendar for that day.

Madshiplollipop · 26/12/2016 19:46

Good to hear, op. Talking about it is one thing (stupid bravado) but actually thinking your boss is so naive is another thing.

what's so funny basic? Xmas Smile

Well the whole thread was based on the outrage of him bunking off. But he went in, it made me laugh at the utter pointlessness of it all.

00100001 · 26/12/2016 20:22

well, we didn't know it was pointless until a few hours ago though....

I am working tonight because someone rang in sick so I am glad he went in

GinandTits · 26/12/2016 20:42

What a dick! It makes things shit for genuine sickness over Xmas to. I miscarried on Xmas eve and obviously was not well enough for then or boxing day...managers were properly off with me till the back to work meeting where I had my scan letters and doctors bits confirming my erpc...

Basicbrown · 26/12/2016 21:02

For you maybe Xmas Grin
