Sorry I know its prob not the right place but I need quick advice. I am mixed feeding my 6 month old. I have one solid breast that I have tried to clear with pumping but after 30 mins its going no where. LO is asleep and I dont want to wake him Am trying hot compress and oil massage but it's going nowhere. Am worried about leaving it overnight and getting an infection - should I be? Any ideas please???

Nice warm bath and try massaging the breast while in the bath, gently squeeze around the aeroela and that should get your milk flowing xx

I am only sharing this as It worked for me and I had a hugely blocked duct with dd 4 and nothing would shift it.

Is your dh asleep? If he's not get him to suck and suck hard. Worked for me sorry but it did.

Hot bath or shower and breast pump

Footinmouthasusual · 14/12/2016 23:11

Breast pump doesn't always clear blocked duct although see op you just engorged so above advice all good and I feel a name change coming

Massaging whilst under the water in a comfortably hot bath, it wont drain the breast completely but it might get it flowing enough for comfort.

I would wake the baby and get them to feed - and I normally would never say to wake a baby!
I take ibuprofen and use a heated oat bag before feeding (although moist heat is better).
Great advice on kellymom on blocked ducts: kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/mastitis/

I don't know if it's an Old wive's Tale, but people I know swear by cabbage leaves to help mastitis (sounds bizarre and I don't know the procedure).

Thankyou all for you help! After a bleary eyed discussion over what was worse, waking baby or letting DH try sucking it out(he was all full of swagger when it was a theoretical discussion but when it started to look like the most likely solution the bravado began to disappear), we decided to let the baby do what he knows best - it worked! Still sore but thankfully not rock solid like it was.
