I can't even summon the words to describe how bonkers this is

OP posts:

Its a horrid story. He sounds like a freak. The lawyers have got to be cunts too for taking it on.

I love her, she's a great comic actress in Modern Family, as well as being totally gorgeous.

StewieGMum · 14/12/2016 17:55

A judge here would piss himself laughing whilst tossing it out of court. A pro-life state? Well, I'm worried he'll win.

And, yeah, this is about money, control, public shaming, and punishing Vergara.

Maudlinmaud · 14/12/2016 17:57

Oh my god. Imagine if this where to happen to any of us. You would feel so out of control.

CaveMum · 14/12/2016 18:02

After the attempt at the "Heartbeat Bill" in Ohio this week (thankfully the Governor vetoed it, although he's still a pro-lifer and signed a Bill banning abortion after 20 weeks) nothing surprises me when it comes to this kind of thing in the USA.

I honestly fear for Roe v Wade under a Trump administration.

Ncbecauseitshard · 14/12/2016 18:02

I'd hope the storage facility had a malfunction.

VoodooPeople · 14/12/2016 18:03

Her net worth is £100 million
His net worth is £15 million

UnoriginalNN · 14/12/2016 18:04

Incredibly depressing and very, very abusive.

I hope she wins. I'm kind of worried she won't which is even more fucked up.

NorksAkimbo72 · 14/12/2016 18:06

The trustee over the eggs is not related to either of them...he is an American pro-life extremist who got himself appointed as their guardian. He named them, and filed the lawsuit. He is effectively trying to set precedent for 'personhood', which could potentially undermine current abortion rights in the USA. I'd love to think the judges would laugh him out of court, but sadly, in the US, if an extreme conservative judge is appointed to the case, this guy may actually get his wish. Additionally, the trustee wants to mandate a surrogate to carry the babies if he wins. I really wish i was making this up.
Abortion rights are hugely divisive at the best of times, but especially now that Trump's in...woman are pretty fearful of having their medical rights compromised.

Italiangreyhound · 14/12/2016 18:08

Oh men do fuck me right off sometimes.

JellyBelli · 14/12/2016 18:12

He's a shit.

Peanutandphoenix · 14/12/2016 18:13

Wtf is he going to do with 2 frozen embryos am all for pro life but the poor women is never going to use them so why is she keeping them on ice why not just have them destroyed she's married to someone else and she has no desire to use the embryos that have been fertilised by her ex. Am more gobsmaked about the fact that this bullshit has even gone as far as court if they split up 2 years ago why is he even doing this now it's like he's trying desperately hard to keep his name in the lime light and drag her through the mud over something stupid dude seriously go and check yourself in to the nut hut and let her and those embryos go.

MunchMunch · 14/12/2016 18:15

Peanut I don't think she can destroy them because in their contract they both need to approve what happens to them

CaoNiMerrilyOnHigh · 14/12/2016 18:19

This is like something from The Handmaid's Tale. Terrifying. Women's rights really are at the bottom of the pile, even below people who don't exist.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 14/12/2016 18:19

They had another 2 embryos which were implanted and didnt result in a child. So he could go through all that for nothing. He's clearly obsessed with her and making her pay for dumping him.

PaulDacresConscience · 14/12/2016 18:24

Blind Gossip has written several blinds about this situation. Very very sad and utterly terrifying. I sincerely hope she wins, as otherwise this sends a nasty message to controlling men about yet another way to make their former partners pay for ending the relationship.

70sDinnerPartyClassic · 14/12/2016 18:28

How the fuck can anyone in their right mind see these 2 frozen embryos as people?

Case is nuts. Fucking pro-lifers. Makes me feel quite ill.

WonderMike · 14/12/2016 18:30

What if he manages to get the embroyos implanted in a surrogate and they don't stick? Or she miscarries? Who is going to take the blame then?

WonderMike · 14/12/2016 18:31

And by blame I mean financial hit, of course.

stickygotstuck · 14/12/2016 18:33

Have you all seen Norks' post above? It bears repeating. Here:

The trustee over the eggs is not related to either of them...he is an American pro-life extremist who got himself appointed as their guardian. He named them, and filed the lawsuit. He is effectively trying to set precedent for 'personhood', which could potentially undermine current abortion rights in the USA. I'd love to think the judges would laugh him out of court, but sadly, in the US, if an extreme conservative judge is appointed to the case, this guy may actually get his wish. Additionally, the trustee wants to mandate a surrogate to carry the babies if he wins. I really wish i was making this up

If this is indeed the case, this is not Loeb's idea and it's even more worrying. How the hell does someone totally unrelated "appoint oneself guardian of somebody else's embryos"??? ShockShockShock

IThinkIMadeYouUpInsideMyHead · 14/12/2016 18:36

In her position, I'd agree to have the embryos implanted, followed immediately by a termination. I'd otherwise be afraid that such a high-profile, well-funded case might go the wrong way and end up setting a legal precedent.

He is scum.

DeepanKrispanEven · 14/12/2016 18:37

How on earth does a pro-life extremist get himself appointed as their guardian? Doesn't the mother get a say in that?

I would hope this will be chucked out because it potentially creates a legal nightmare. If these embryos have a right to sue their mother, there are major implications in relation to the right to abortion generally. In a wider context, there are also major implications even with miscarriages - could mothers be sued for failing to take care to avoid them?

JenLindleyShitMom · 14/12/2016 18:37

Additionally, the trustee wants to mandate a surrogate to carry the babies if he wins

How can that be in any way possible? How he can he have a right to use a woman's body. How could a judge grant that order? It would be fine if a woman was saying she wanted to do it but to have it mandated? Surely that is not possible.

tldr · 14/12/2016 18:42

It beggars belief. I read about with my mouth hanging open.

DeepanKrispanEven · 14/12/2016 18:45

Jen, I assume they would make sure the surrogate was willing - I think mandate in that context just means permit implantation in a willing surrogate.

DorcasthePuffin · 14/12/2016 18:46

Oh men do fuck me right off sometimes

What Italian said.
