WIBU to apply for this position...?

So I've seen advertised a voluntary position on the committee of an organisation which is related to my job. I've been thinking for a while that my cv could really do with some "extra curricular activities" to boost it. This is ideal for me, and these positions do not come up very often.

The issue: I have a two year old, and I am nine weeks pregnant.

If I was appointed to the committee, I would need to attend monthly board meetings in a city about two hours away by train. Also would be work between meetings but probably not massive amounts. DH said he would happily deal with childcare to allow me to do this, and that its up to me, but I'm just wondering if the timing is just wrong and it would be too hard.

DM thinks I shouldn't be taking on additional work right now, that the timing is unfortunate but I'd be making life more difficult for myself (an extra thing to juggle etc).

Also, realistically, they might not want someone who is pregnant and would need to take time off? I mean obviously they can't use that as an excuse for not selecting me for the position, but would they be annoyed if I took it without telling them I was pregnant?

Ffs apply. Theres no guarantee that you will be successful, but if you dont apply then you can guarantee that you wont.

It is a massively detailed application and an interview which I would need to travel to this city and pay for an extra day at nursery to attend. Plus some studying. I don't want to go through all that if I have no intention or am unable to take the role at the end of it.

I'd do it. Are you taking mat leave from your paid job? If so it will be good to have something to keep your hand in.
I'm self employed and went back to a little bit of evening working when ds was 3mo. I reckon you'd only need to miss 2-3 board meetings.

Go for it you're overthinking. Ask if they will pay travel and childcare costs. Anywhere decent will ensure you are not out of pocket to volunteer. Good luck.

Yeah I'll be taking mat leave. I'll need to get my employers permission to do it but they like this sort of thing so that should be ok.

Thanks all. Some food for thought.
