Today I was in a taxi (sitting in the front seat) and I had to ask the driver to not text while he was driving!

We were going over speed bumps and behind a car so not really fast but he kept having the glance up (somehow this seemed more dangerous because we were going slow right behind another car).He put the phone down when I asked but when I got out I also phoned the company back and told them what happened - they were very helpful and said they would pull him in the office to have a word.

Was I unreasonable to have phoned the office and get him pulled in? Or should I have just left it since he put the phone down and didn't pick it back up for the rest of the ride?

YANBU in my opinion. Texting while driving is not only stupid and dangerous, but is actually against the law as far as I know. You definitely did the right thing to report this. If he's done it with you, he'll do it with others. Not on at all.

Good for you for telling him to stop. It is against the law, but more than that it could cause him to crash the car or fail to brake in time.

You may have just saved a life. Well done.

Personally I would have reported via 111 too - with a bit of luck the taxi company would get a visit from the police.

Definitely report him. That's so dangerous.

I'm think you done the right thing. I saw something other day on TV and few days ago apprently using a phone whilst driving is worse than drink driving

He's a professional driver. He knows the law. He just chooses to put his own life, your life and the lives of other road users at risk while he sends a bloody text. I've been at some horrific trials of people who have caused death or serious injury while texting at the wheel. There's just no excuse.

One of the few times I have changed my behaviour (using handsfree to make/take calls) instantly was after watching this. I now have an app: Drivemode which switches the phone to voicemail and responds to calls/text with a text saying I am driving when the phone pairs with the car.

Admittedly about calls rather than texts, but worth highlighting.

Right thing to do.
