Nursery won't give me full 15 hours of free care. AIBU to complain?

DD is finally 3 and the govt's 15 free hours kicks in in January. Hurrah! I've so been looking forward to this as the bill for FT daycare has been £1100/month, so crippling. Every savings will help!

Daycare today told me that the 15 free hours counts for one day and I'll still be charged for 4 full days. The thing is daycare's day is 11 hours long- open from 7.30am to 6.30pm so there's actually 4 hours that they should be carrying over. 4 hours isn't much but works out to £80/month so nothing to sniff at.

I get the impression the govt funding doesn't actually cover the costs of nursery and so this may be a way for the nursery to claw back some of the costs.

AIBU to complain - and has anyone else experienced similar?

How much of what you pay is care and how much includes other stuff? Free care at some local nurseries doesn't include food or special classes/trips. So parents have to pay extra or provide/get their kids to miss out.

It's 15 hours term time. So if your child is there all year round it works out as 11 hours per week.

Hollie - brilliant, I didn't realize that. You've answered my question! thx

DailyFail - I pay a flat fee for everything inclusive of meals, nappies etc.

It depends if it is term time only or all year round. The funding is only term time .

Yes, my daughter is in full time even during term time so now understand how they've worked out 11 hours/week. All good - thanks all.
