to ask for sample answers to the question "Are you all sorted for Christmas"

I'm struggling with the horrible question.

So far I've only managed half-hearted jokes like "I'm campaigning to ban that question"

"Oh Fuck Off" seems a bit extreme.

I could go passive-aggressive: "Oh I always just relax and enjoy the lead-up to Christmas"

Perhaps not: "Have you lost your weight?" - that might be a mistake.

I'm thinking of a wry "well my bank balance has gone down so I must be doing something"

other answers please. And by the way I was first asked this question this year in mid-November by a hairdresser when attempting to relax at the salon.

It's definitely just small talk. I quite enjoy it as it gives me a break from discussing the weather - and I'm sure people that I talk to probably appreciate the variation too Grin

festive Flowers to LetitiaCropleysCookbook

I knew I wasn't the only one.

Only slight difference is that for me it wouldn't feel like a steamroller if it wasn't for the assumptions wrapped up in the question.

it's the way people say it as well though. I guess I need to work on copying the tone too....

My standard response to the question is a harsh, sarcastic laugh ...

MrUno · 14/12/2016 14:14

It's small talk. You are massively projecting.

Just be honest, what's wrong with that? "I have been quite busy what with concerts to organise and de's birthday' but we'll get there in the end.

Do people really think that such a question is judgemental? Confused Bizarre.

Yes and no!

Or

Well it usually happens whether I'm ready or not!

melj1213 · 14/12/2016 16:43

It's a fairly standard end of year yes/no small talk question, it;'s not asking the meaning of life.

Are you ready for Christmas?

Oh yes, I got organized for once and bought everything early since I'm so busy with work and stuff these next couple of weeks!

Oh no, I've been so busy with all the festive events and work I've not even had a chance yet, but I'll get round to it eventually!

eyelevelgrill · 14/12/2016 16:46

I take your point melj,

I wonder if a man is ever asked, or ever asks another man, the question?

I'm thinking not....

*I wonder if a man is ever asked, or ever asks another man, the question?

I'm thinking not....*

Then you'd be thinking wrong because I not only asked a male colleague that very question the other day at work, but also overheard two other male colleagues discussing the same topic yesterday

there's an exception to every rule. It's how AIBU works

I'll ask DH tonight but I think he will say "don't be ridiculous"

I'd say getting there, or not really but got it all planned.

haveyourselfamerry · 14/12/2016 17:28

thanks Belly,

I want polite ones that arent making a false apology/self-accusation. Avoiding self-deprecation is a new year's resolution!

"Yes I'll be ready" is entering the top 10.
