I've had a very painful ankle for two years now. TWO YEARS.

It began because I started riding a bike with my quite weighty child on one of those attachment things on the back...this was neccessity as for her own reasons, she wouldn't/couldn't ride her own even though she was almost 6...and it was a fair distance we had to travel to school...about 2 miles. So I was riding 4 miles a day with her on the back of my bike...

My ankle went...I saw a doctor...then had an X ray...nothing visible wrong.

It was agony to walk far and I limped.

I'd recently accepted it as my lot...just how I was always going to be.

Then....about 3 weeks ago I stupidly wore flip flops to the shops...I live in Oz...I realised I was in agony and so bought some cheapo shoes in a supermarket.

The shoes I bought were those dreadful material Mary Jane style with a sort of spongy sole...thickish....

Anyway...they felt very comfy so I wore them for the next few days and realised my ankle hurt less.

3 weeks later and the pain has almost gone, my ankle has changed shape and I can't believe it!

How could cheap and nasty shoes do this! It has to be the shoes...I've not done anything else new!

Louis It must be but I've been wearing very good quality trainers/boots for the past 2 years...thinking that if I got good shoes, then that would help...but it never!

Try getting some slappas - they've got arch support and are fab thongs for the summer (I wear mine all year round as I've got plantar faciatis).

Ah I'm thrilled for you and your ugly shoes. I have a chronic back condition and if ugly shoes would help, id wear them forever!

user1477282676 · 14/12/2016 05:30

Maitland I used to have Plantar Faciitis but it went when I lost half a stone...thank God!

I love my ugly shoes Grin

Aussie Soles do a great supportive thong, looks good too.
Congrats on healing! I had a mildly bust foot for 6 months and it was such a small but ongoing pain.
If you head to a podiatrist with your miracle shoes, they will probably be able to work out what the issue is and recommend other (better looking) solutions.

IT could be the impact absorption in the squidgy sole. I wear crocs a lot for this reason, and buy smarter shoes with a rubbery wedge. The kind with the thin hard soles just don't work for me, smart though they look.

I am also in Australia, and have had feet problem due to a poor gait that has developed from two Rheumatoid Arthritic knees (and probably years of wearing stilettos to work, back in the day). Podiatrist recommend that I wear Mary Jane type shoes, or at least shoes with a strap across the instep or lace-ups, plus a closed in heel - sandals are fine so long as they are not sling back but have a closed heel and strap.

It has made a world of difference to me, so I know what you mean.

Try Ziera. They're not cheap, but when you tell them what you want, they record it for future visits, and whenever you go, they only bring out shoes that are suitable for you, which is usually only a few pairs in my case, plus you can wear orthotics in them. I think you can also return them within a month - not completely sure about that. They also don't want you to leave the shop with shoes that you're not entirely happy with.

I now only have shoes that I can actually wear.

PKLME maybe that's it! TEzza I will look for Ziera thank you!
