Shop queues.

So I was queuing to pay for some items in a charity shop and they are sorting out donations at the counter. They continue to finish up which is fine I don't mind waiting. I'm the only person at the counter at this point.

However another customer comes up behind me and they immediately stop and serve them completely bypassing me.

I was with DH and when we walked away after I then got served I complained to him and stated I was pissed off.

Was I a shit for ranting to DH about it in the shop potentially in earshot?

Yes.

You should have said it to their face.

Reality16 · 13/12/2016 21:25

Yes, why didnt you say 'excuse me, I was waiting' at the point where they proceeded to serve the other person?

BackforGood · 13/12/2016 21:27

If I were bothered, and not just happy killing a bit of time, I'd have just said "I'm next" when they looked up to serve.
Bit odd to stand there meekly then rant afterwards. Confused

PinkiePiesCupcakes · 13/12/2016 21:29

I would have made sure they knew I was waiting and not stood like a plum whilst they did something else.

I hate waiting, especially in a shop, they should work the till first and foremost, other things secondary.

We had a long queue at the post office. It wasn't obvious where the end was and lots of us had to direct people to the end of the queue at various times. At one point the whole queue decided we needed to organise ourselves in a better way. There was quite a lot of cameraderie at the end.

You need to speak up.

LadyVampire · 13/12/2016 21:34

I started ranting to DH as we were leaving and was too nervous to tell them directly but was annoyed. Had just come back from dentist and was on way to GP so wasn't in major rush but didn't have a lot of time to wait.

Yabu for not just saying 'excuse me, I was waiting'.

LadyVampire · 13/12/2016 21:37

Yes should definitely speak up in future as them potentially overhearing was rude. Too embarrased to go back as whilst I was irritated I don't want to have caused someone upset :S

Why on earth didn't you say anything at the time instead of ranting afterwards?

QueenMortificado · 13/12/2016 21:41

This right here is my most annoying type of thread on MN. Person gets in to perfectly normal social situation. Could sort it out just by mentioning it at the time. Instead decides to stew about it for hours and then post a thread on MN where everyone will post exactly the same response ("why didn't you just say XYZ") until OP drip feeds more

Whhhhhyyyyy oohhhhh whhhhyyyyy.

nickelbabeinamanger · 13/12/2016 21:41

Yeah, YABU.
You should have pointed out that you had been waiting, and you should have complained to them, not DH.
It's PA and has no effect

LadyVampire · 13/12/2016 21:54

What's PA sorry?

Thanks anyway, future ref will sort it out straight away.

Passive aggressive.
I know you felt embarrassed and felt you couldn't address it then, but the cashier wouldn't have known that and would have thought you were being mean.
I know where you're coming from, I hate confrontation and often want to do exactly what you did

LadyVampire · 13/12/2016 22:35

Yeah I was definitely that which is shitty and regret it now (was moody due to GP and dentist which doesn't excuse my rant as I knew I was making a mountain out of a molehill as soon as we left). I go to this place often enough that they recognize me and DD and I sometimes have a chat with them so should I offer an apology or just leave it? Feel nervous about going back :S

This happened to me last week. I had been waiting for a couple of minutes at the cinema counter, (I was buying vouchers) and a new till opened and the cashier called a group up who had just walked toward the till.
I said, "actually I was next" and she said sorry, I'll serve you now blah blah" and I said it was ok but she insisted so I went to the till to be and realised that the group waiting to be served were some boys with disabilities and their carers. Plus it took her ages to figure out how to sell me some vouchers
I felt like a total ass.

LadyVampire · 13/12/2016 23:47

Gabs how awkward but you didn't know so not your fault.
