To ask carol singers not to call round?

I'll be in on my own and have a one year old dog who goes mad when people knock at the door. They would be arriving whilst my child is in the bath or I'm trying to get her to sleep. I'm happy to make a donation to the charity they are raising for but will I look like a Scrooge if I ask them to leave us out?? I didn't live here last Christmas so I don't want to seem unfriendly

Carol singers are still a thing?

You don't have to answer the door to anyone if you don't want to

I think it's fine but how are you going to do it?

Mammyofonlyone · 12/12/2016 13:13

Where we live they are very much alive! I can call someone who I know will be taking part and ask them to avoid our house. I just really don't want to be 'the miserable new people who hate Christmas'!

The thing is, our dog can tell when someone approaches the house which usually sets her off. If it doesn't, she always goes mad barking and jumping at the door when someone knocks so just not answering wouldn't really help (ie would still unsettle my child)

You have a dog problem, not a christmas singer problem

Short term: phone up your friend: "Hi, [insert small talk]. Btw, I have a favour to ask. Could you avoid us this year [insert your reason]. It'll be a real shame to miss you guys and I hope you'll come round next year when we've sorted the dog situation."

Long term: train your dog.

Fair point re the dog. Will look into training her. I just thought she is young and excitable so was par for the course
