To tell her to stfu and stop being so ungrateful?!

NoCapes · 11/12/2016 14:49

Ungrateful may not be the word but my brain isn't working properly today, too tired

I'm home alone with 3 children, one of whom is only a baby and is very poorly, I've hardly had any sleep and I'm not feeling 100% myself (but trying to ignore it in the hope it won't develop into full grown lurgy)
I need to wash school uniforms, make dinner, tidy up, bath kids, then get ready for another sleepless night
Oh and I'm skint

A family member is currently in New York, and keeps texting me to tell me how shit everything is - the line at the Statue of Liberty was too long, the carriage ride in Central Park wasn't long enough, they didn't get a good enough picture of the Christmas tree etc etc

I've tried to be funny and tell her to enjoy it, tried to be all 'oh I'll swap places with you then if you don't like it haha'
But it's pissing me off

I will never ever be able to afford
A holiday like that, yet none of it is good enough for her - and I'm the person she chooses to tell?!

If she texts me again it's very likely I'll just tell her to fuck off!

It's in some people's blood to not appreciate amazing opportunities, I find these type of people very hard to handle because my personality is easily pleased. We were fortunate enough to visit NY years ago and it's fabulous, I'd love to return, but we'll never have the money to, if she can't be happy there, I don't think she'll be happy anywhere.

I find it bizarre even texting when you are on holiday, because it's something I only do when I'm bored or out of necessity. On holiday, I like to saviour every damn minute of it, sending moaning texts is outrageous and in your circumstances I'd be tempted to tell her to Piss Off.

Mommawoo · 11/12/2016 16:48

Is diamond shoes a Friends reference?

ItsALLAboutMeMeMeMeME · 11/12/2016 16:52

"Thank you for bringing your unsatisfactory NYC vacation experiences to my attention. It is clearly intolerable. I will, of course, forward your concerns to the relevant authorities to have them addressed and resolved just as soon as I clear my sicknursing/domestic drudgery/budget-compromised backlog and find time to give a fuck."

ItsALLAboutMeMeMeMeME · 11/12/2016 16:53

Or, yes, just 'fuck off' would be a perfectly acceptable response in this case too.

Olddear · 11/12/2016 16:54

Text back 'sounds grim tbh! And I thought I was having a tough time!' That'll soon shut her up!

Katy07 · 11/12/2016 16:58

Just ignore it. If they ask why you didn't reply you can say you were too busy and you assumed they just needed to vent and didn't really mean to complain about their holiday.

gillybeanz · 11/12/2016 16:59

Just don't read her texts, or switch phone off.

daisychain01 · 11/12/2016 17:14

Don't say FO, it will only be your current pissed-offness talking. She's in a hermetically sealed bubble that is a holiday and doesn't realise she's being an arse.

Once she gets back home to reality, tell her to give her head a wobble, but don't do it over text.

Presuming of course that you like her and she's a great mate normally...

TheSconeOfStone · 11/12/2016 17:17

Diamonds in the soles of her shoes is from a Paul Simon song (shows age).

WhereYouLeftIt · 11/12/2016 17:25

My response would depend on why I thought she was texting me.

If it was because she's self-absorbed, I would respond with ConvincingLiar's suggestion ( I'm sorry that NYC isn't all you hoped it would be. For me it's completely out of reach and instead I'm at home feeling unwell struggling with 3 unwell children, so even though it's not perfect, it sounds pretty good. Please try to make the most of it. )

If she was a smug bastard trying to rub my nose in it, a 'fuck off' might be forthcoming.

BakingMad91 · 11/12/2016 17:28

Does your family member have kids? If not maybe she's jealous of you and would love to be at home with her family around her.

MrsJayy · 11/12/2016 17:33

Next time i would text my heart is bleeding for you here ! People like that do me in friends of dh moan and moan about holidays they hated newyork they hated marituis they hated the maldiives i just want to slap them

TeachingPostQuery · 11/12/2016 17:37

Might she be clumsily trying to say "It's not all that, don't feel bad you can't do the same"? Or might she want a family and feel the same about you moaning about the day to day hassles of having children, and be giving you a taste of your own medicine?

If it's not either of these things, roll your eyes and ignore.

WuTangFlan · 11/12/2016 17:39

Diamond shoes is from Friends = "My wallet's too tight for my fifties and my diamond shoes are too tight".

80sWaistcoat · 11/12/2016 18:04

She might be trying to say, oh it's not all great. It's the kind of ham fisted thing I'd do while feeling bad for being away...

Roll your eyes might be the best idea.
