"Sale swap or giverway" Grin

OMG. And I thought I was bad at wrapping! Who the hell has the temerity to charge a pound per item for that level of service!?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 11/12/2016 14:08

They don't look as good as my amateur wrapping. I'm not the perfectionist some people are but my wrapping always looks pretty.

Wondering whether to turn my skill into a service. It's a thought. Might work best if the customer waited while you did it. They wouldn't have to worry that you'd nick their presents that way. I wrap quickly. People who hate wrapping often struggle for ages, though others just botch it fast.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 11/12/2016 14:21

I don't think the price is bad as it includes paper. I'm sure I've paid more for gift wrapping from retailers.

The photo of wrapped presents didn't look brilliant though. Poor woman, it's really unkind to take the piss :(

MommaGee · 11/12/2016 14:29

If I'm paying I'd want better than I can do myself. This looks like I did it myself. Drunk.

Bjazzle · 11/12/2016 14:37

moving on yes it is a bit unkind I suppose, so I am being little unreasonable.
I didnt say the concept wasnt a good idea, I actually think its a good idea but I said its a rip off- the wrapping paper is clearly from pound land and the wrapping itself isnt anything spectacular so to charge £1.50 to wrap a gift, most people will have quite a lot to wrap if they cba doing it themselves.
I also think the drop off and collect thing is abit silly as if people had time to do that surely they have time to wrap a few prezzies.

It's a rip-off because it looks spectacularly shite.

TheGrandTourOfMyArse · 11/12/2016 14:49

I saw on a programme about scammers once (we've they basically tell you how people have been scammed and essentially gives you ideas on how to do it yourself) and one of the things on there was a gift wrapping service. They'd set up a stall in the high street, people paid upfront and dropped off the items that they'd literally just bought and went away for a cuppa or whatever. The scammers took the items into the back, really expensive things like play stations, jewellery, clothing and computer equipment, emptied the boxes and refilled them with rocks and toys etc that weighed almost the same before wrapping them. This service reminds me of that episode.

AcrossthePond55 · 11/12/2016 14:55

Not uncommon here to have charity wrapping booths inside the mall. The 'suggested donations' start at around USD $3.00 for a small typical gift box package.

I wouldn't pay some random to wrap my gifts and it would cost a fortune for the charity booth to wrap them all.

Guess I'm stuck with the job.

Aeroflotgirl · 11/12/2016 14:59

I would want to drop my presents at a strangers house and not knowing if I will get them back. The wrapping isent that great either.

Aeroflotgirl · 11/12/2016 14:59

Meant, I woukdent want to

Of course it's not 'unkind'. She's selling a service, charging a high rate & advertising it on FB. It's fair enough that she's being called out in it being over priced & a rubbish job.

whyohwhy000 · 11/12/2016 15:17

BewtySkoolDropowt Amazon do it nicely though, and the risk of them nicking your items is much smaller.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 11/12/2016 15:24

Yes it absolutely is unkind. Imagine if she was a MNer and logged on to find you all taking the piss? How would that feel Annie?

Nobody rolling in cash is going to be offering to wrap present for people. I don't think the price is that high either.

It's just unnecessarily nasty. If she was charging a fiver a present and it looked like a five year old had done it then maybe that would be a fair point but that's not the case. Not has this person held themself out to ridicule by appearing in the local media.

If you don't want to use her services that's fine but to pretend it's not unkind to splash her tiny business on here for the sole purpose of taking the piss is just horrible.

Some of you people here should be ashamed. It's not public service you're doing. It's just plain, old fashioned bitching.

BewtySkoolDropowt · 11/12/2016 20:23

whyohwhy, I'd hope they do a better job, it's three times the price!

MistyMinge · 11/12/2016 20:27

It's pretty enterprising. However, I'd want them to look better than I could do and I'd worry I'd never see the stuff again or it would come back used or broken.

Wonder if they've had many clients

duskonthelawn · 11/12/2016 20:33

Yeah I think this thread is pretty mean. It's a good idea and she's hardly charging a fortune. Maybe those presents are her own and she couldn't afford to buy expensive wrapping paper? She's hardly conning people.

minifingerz · 11/12/2016 20:40

Sorry - it's bloody expensive.

You could wrap a present like that in about three minutes. 20 in an hour.

NennyNooNoo · 11/12/2016 20:45

I think a lot of the crap on FB selling pages is way overpriced. There's no upfront cost on advertising so I suppose they might as well try it. They won't get any buyers.

ElizaSchuyler · 11/12/2016 20:49

Dh has paid a similar amount in store but it was lovely with fancy ribbon & everything. Done while you wait.
