To put my diet before Christmas frippery?

I know I'm being a real stick in the mud but do you think IABU to just sack off Christmas and continue to stick to the diet?

I have a four year old who won't eat a roast, a 10 month old who certainly doesn't care. My mother eats like a bird and is coming round Christmas Eve to pretty much say no to 90% of stuff offered. The only person who is really bothered is DP.

I said in happy to treat it like a Sunday roast but I don't want loads of shit laying around the house begging to be eaten. I'd much rather just have some meat, veg and roasties and then get back on the diet.

I've lost about 23lbs so far and goal is probably in 8lbs time so not far to go.

Are you following a set diet? If you lay off the sugar and alcohol, you'll reach your target by new year - well done!

Sirzy · 10/12/2016 20:45

Yanbu to not go OTT with shopping and to stick to what you know will be eaten. That is sensible.

If DH wants some "special" bits then he can get them for himself.

harderandharder2breathe · 10/12/2016 20:47

Of course yanbu, especially given most of your company don't care. Surely DH can get himself some treat bits and enjoy them without the rest of you needing to?

frikadela01 · 10/12/2016 20:47

Yanbu. Good for you. I have the utmost admiration for anyone who can stick to a diet at Christmas (or on holiday/birthdays etc). You could well be at target by the new year if you stick to the diet. Well done so far.

SleepFreeZone · 10/12/2016 20:48

I'm on WW but I am being pretty strict. I eat really small portions, try to keep it very simple and plain

It's not that I think I would necessarily fall off the wagon if the food is around, I'm just no longer interested in stuffing my face for festivity sake. I think I've shrunk my stomach and most of the time I'm not particularly hungry.

Well done on the loss so far!

Just do a chicken roast lunch/dinner as you describe, perhaps with added pigs in blankets.

If DH wants more Xmas treats, buy him a huge tin of Quality Street and leave him alone with it.

harderandharder2breathe · 10/12/2016 20:48

Sorry I meant, he shouldn't care that you're not eating them

I know dieting takes will power, it sounds like you have that Grin but if you don't want things in the house he can always pop to the shops or sit in his car and munch Wink

This sounds completely normal to me. No need to buy loads of random food that no-one will eat, and no need to stuff yourself with food when you're not actually hungry Christmas or not, diet or no diet.

FreeButtonBee · 10/12/2016 20:50

Any chance you can load up on festive treats your DH likes and you don't? Luckily I am not fussed by Christmas cake or mince pies so can make them and not eat them.

amusedbush · 10/12/2016 20:50

If you are, then so am I! Sadly I have a lot further to go, though (21lbs down, 60ish left to go Blush). We do Christmas just the two of us and we are having high quality steak with veggies for dinner on the day, nothing else.

My parents are away over the break and we'll pop in to see PIL after everyone has eaten.

We've both been overweight for too long and we're finally on the path to sorting it out. Most Christmas food is cheap, crap sugar and nothing that won't be there next year!

SleepFreeZone · 10/12/2016 20:51

DP of course only wants to have treats if I have treats so is just being quite irritated by me. I said he is welcome to spend Xmas day with his mum if he likes as she loves feeding him.

If I had older kids I would of course cook and lovingly produce a wonderful meal, but with just the two of us I don't want to be forced into overeating out of tradition.

I'm on a diet and am relaxing it for christmas eve, christmas day and boxing day only.

No need to pig out throughout the whole of December.

The only other exception I'm making is that I am allowing myself booze, from the christmas work do next week until new year.

I'd feel like I was missing out too much to do without that (and I'm not a big drinker, but I have some social events coming up)

SleepFreeZone · 10/12/2016 20:53

Fucking hell amusedbush that's actually a great idea. We both love a steak! I usually only buy them for DP as I don't want to spend too much on food and I'm not that fussed but it's a bloody fantastic idea to get two beautiful steaks and eat those with some side dishes 👍

We bought the 'connoisseur' steaks from Donald Russell online, they'll be delivered on the 23rd and then I'll do them with a blue cheese sauce and cabbage sautéed with bacon and butter 😍

I'm on the Cambridge Diet so it's not technically on-plan but it's very low carb so shouldn't really affect the diet. I'll still be in ketosis after eating it.

I'm so looking forward to it after weeks of shakes and grilled chicken breast Grin

PinkSwimGoggles · 10/12/2016 21:08

yanbu
it's wasteful if no one eats it.
can your dh make a roast chicken? that's easy to make festive and healthy with loads of veg.

SleepFreeZone · 10/12/2016 21:11

Ooooh yum! I'm also suggesting we have a fish dish on one of the days. I've never had monkfish and I'd love that with a bright green salad.
