To think that it is illegal to work on your own with 3non verbal autistics adults two of whom have seizures.all be it not that often.it is normally 2 of us working but have been short staffed so left on our own on shifts with them .

Sounds highly illegal. My brother used to care for adults with additional needs and he was always with another carer in the residential home.

The clients aren't getting their due care and it's not safe for anyone.

God that's stupidly unsafe.

I don't know if it's strictly 'illegal' in its own right, but I do know that there will be funding allocated for a specific ratio of staff (fraud?) and that if anything happened you would be legally accountable as much as whoever is in charge.

You can't knowingly work in an unsafe and potentially lethal environment and do/say nothing without being complicit.

Honestly, and I know it's tough, but you might need to be prepared to lose your job over this. Literally refuse to either stay or turn up unless you have proof you will not be left alone. Personally I'd not even turn up (obviously tell them), rather than put myself in the position of having default responsibility. I'd be reporting it to the CQC myself regardless.

They should be paying for agency staff if things are that bad, the same agencies you should perhaps join.

Oh and if it got to the point of no return I'd contact their families.

I have to be honest abd say im not happy about the situation and have cosidered seriously about reporting it but im worried that the people i work for will somehow get away with it and i am alreadt decided about leaving .
I m just hoping thst someone who is involvrc in social care or learning disabilities can confirm my fears

I worked with people with similar illnesses. We worked one on one, unless it was nightshift and then it was one for two of them. ( they were asleep)

The trouble is we are short staffed and so wonder if it is justification enough fot it
