So was on the sides with DS2 (5) watching DS1 at his swimming lesson.

Next to me were a few mums whose kids were in the pool were talking about Christmas. How and when they move the elf and when they sneak the stocking in etc. All the while my 5 year old is hearing all this. I'm not ready for the magic of Christmas to disappear for him yet wahhhh.

So anyway later that day the owner of the swimming school emailed to saying he would be sending out an email to to everyone about something to do about parking at the venue blah blah blah so I just replied and said would he mind just also adding a lighthearted reminder to just have a bit of discretion when talking about Father Christmas and moving the elf etc and just to have a quick check no little ears were listening.

Anyway he basically replied just saying he gets where I'm coming from but he's not going to say anything.

AIBU for feeling pissed off that he can't just pop a quick line in about this?? Or am I going to have put earmuffs on DS2 next lesson Xmas Grin

You could always say something yourself?

NotStoppedAllDay · 08/12/2016 21:00

You are being totally ridiculous!

Eminybob · 08/12/2016 21:01

Why didn't you say something to them at the time?

JustCallMeKate · 08/12/2016 21:01

This is a joke isn't it?

nowayjose1 · 08/12/2016 21:01

I wanted to say something but didn't wanna draw attention to it as I had DS2 right there

It would be a bit weird for him to post about. His job is to manage the leisure centre not keeping santa a secret.
Sorry, I can understand why it annoyed you.

elQuintoConyo · 08/12/2016 21:02

Fuck my face! Really? Could you move? Cough discreetly and make a comedy show of covering snowflake's ears?

TheQueenOfItAll · 08/12/2016 21:02
Xmas Biscuit
FeckinCrutches · 08/12/2016 21:02

Why didn't you say anything? Confused

JustCallMeKate · 08/12/2016 21:02

What on earth were you going to say? You can't stop people having a conversation fpr goodness sake!

WannaBe · 08/12/2016 21:03

The elf really isn't part of the magic of Christmas. It's a money making fad which started about five years ago so is nowhere near any kind of tradition. Multiple people have been sucked in though, to the tune of 30 quid a pop, so someone is rubbing their hands with glee.

Mulberry72 · 08/12/2016 21:03

YABU. Your DS could hear it anywhere, school etc. You could ask them yourself if you're so bothered!

Careerchanger2017 · 08/12/2016 21:04

You should of just coughed loudly at them they would of got the message.

Wookiecookies · 08/12/2016 21:05

Unless it is your intention to raise a precious snowflake OP, then yes YABU. Move somewhere else, drop out of the daft elf craze, or just learn how to deflect it with your DS2.

Soubriquet · 08/12/2016 21:05
Hmm
NotStoppedAllDay · 08/12/2016 21:08

This has got to be a windup! Nobody is this precious over bloody Christmas

SpringerS · 08/12/2016 21:08

You absolutely aren't being unreasonable but most posters here are. If I'm in public, I always do a quick check about to see that there are no kids around me when I talk about things like that. It's basic cop on.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 08/12/2016 21:10

YABU. If he has already heard it then surely it is too late anyway. And do children really believe the elves move themselves?! You would have been betrayed off saying something today or moving away from them.

There is far more to Christmas than Father Christmas and those dreadful elves. So it won't ruin the magic of Christmas for him. Until a few years ago nobody had elves and children still enjoyed it.

I think the owner was polite to humour you and right not to email everyone.

oldestmumaintheworld · 08/12/2016 21:10

I'm sorry but you are making a fuss about nothing. Don't be so silly about so little

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 08/12/2016 21:10

*better off

Wookiecookies · 08/12/2016 21:13

These stupid elves, I knew they would be trouble, with their evil eyes, their sneaky nightime shenanigans and downright disregard for the suffering of parents in the run up to christmas.

HmmGrin

Pineapplemilkshake · 08/12/2016 21:14

YANBU - surely it's common sense for people not to talk like this in front of young children! I'd be annoyed too if my DS had the magic of Santa ruined at that age

dontcallmelen · 08/12/2016 21:15

Just shoot me please, enough with the fecking elfs & 'magic' of Christmas.

bigredfireengine · 08/12/2016 21:15

You don't see santa or the tooth fairy

You do see the elf. Surely all children know that the elf is just total bollocks?

Be glad he knows that the elf is just made up money spinning rubbish and doesn't so think that it is alright having someone watching you constantly and reporting back and be glad that he isn't being emotionally abused by being told that if you do bad things then you won't get presents.

Wookiecookies · 08/12/2016 21:18

But Pineapple, the magic of santa is a globally appreciated and accepted fairytale. These flipping Elves are the product of some entrepreneurial twat on pinterest, who is laughing all the way through the candy candy cane forest, through the sea of swirly whirly gumdrops, over the rainbow glitter clouds and all the way to the fecking bank.

Jolly, evil elf selling bastards.
