on my own?
STBXH left me in Feb, and we haven't had a holiday this year - after a very stressful year, I would like to get away next year, if only for a few days. Where would be good for me & DD to go in March - she'll be nearly 4 if that makes any difference?

do it. I am a single mum and I have taken holiday either in France or in Europe with my child (now 5). Kids are highly adaptable.

Enjoy you holiday!

K425 · 07/12/2016 15:58

Netherlands. Utrecht hosts the Miffy Museum!

Pineapplemilkshake · 07/12/2016 16:02

Go for it! I've brought DS away quite a few times as a single parent. What about Disneyland Paris, or even somewhere like Menorca?

MrsPeelyWally · 07/12/2016 16:04

You'll have a great time.

Ellypoo · 07/12/2016 16:09

I didn't even think about Disneyland Paris - do you think she's be old enough to enjoy it?

Thanks all - think I just need the confidence to go for it!

Go for it!!!

I took redundancy a few years ago and took DS who was 3 at the time, to the Maldives for 3 weeks. Best holiday of my life!

We've been on so many adventures together. Driven across Europe a few times, and just recently back from Morroco.

So many cheap flights with Easyjet and Ryanair these days. The choice are endless.

MrsPeelyWally · 07/12/2016 16:13

What about that place in Amsterdam? Its a big park with accommodation. I know people who've been and loved it just as people on MN love it.

Steviea88 · 07/12/2016 16:16

What about pepper pig world at paultons park? You can get a hotel that has a swimming pool?

Or Cadbury world? And then sort out other things to do on the other days? X

Ellypoo · 07/12/2016 16:19

We went to Cadbury world earlier this year. Peppa Pig world is not a bad idea - I'll look at the Amsterdam place too, just had a very quick look at Disneyland at it is expensive.

Go for it, I've often taken mine away on my own since they were babies.

If you're happy to drive in Europe have a look at European Centre Parks and Landal resorts, I dont know what airport transfers are like to them. Both companies have designed their parks for colder weather.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/12/2016 16:27

I want to go to Miffy World

reindeerbitesback · 07/12/2016 16:35

I second Disneyland Paris. It was the first place I took my DDs on my own as a single parent.

RattieOfCatan · 07/12/2016 16:36

Is efteling the one in the Netherlands? Duinrell is in the Netherlands too I think, I have fond memories of going to both as a child (we stayed at Duinrell, though that might be more suitable for older children, the pool area certainly was more suited to older kids!)

K425 · 07/12/2016 16:54

Efteling! When I was a toddler we lived in Belgium and went over the border for a day trip to Efteling. It was magical. I can still remember bits, and it was 48 years ago!

Hobnobhobbit · 07/12/2016 17:02

What's your budget

BitchQueen90 · 07/12/2016 17:31

YANBU! I took 3 year old DS to Cape Verde this year. Just the two of us and we had an amazing time. Booked to go to the Canaries next year. The hardest part was keeping him entertained on the flight but if you go somewhere close to the UK and take a portable DVD player or something you'll be fine. Go for it, you'll have an amazing time.

Legoland in Denmark opens at the end of March. Great for little ones and theres another holiday park across the road with soft play, iceskating, aquadome, mini golf etc.

Pineapplemilkshake · 07/12/2016 19:27

Another thing I learnt was not to do a package holiday but book separate flights and hotel. I did a few Thomas Cook holidays and remember the stress of getting on the transfer bus. While the men put the family suitcases in the luggage bit under the bus, the rest of their families stampeded on and saved seats for each other. By the time I had juggled a folding buggy, suitcase and a tired toddler, it was a nightmare trying to find a seat on the bus and people were reluctant to let us sit together. From then on, it was private taxis all the way for me!

If you are considering theme parks then PortAventura (near Salou, Costa Daurada, Spain) is another one to consider. Has the advantage of being on the coast. Your only problem with most of the places suggested (including this) is the weather in March is unpredictable. You might be better going later if you can, or heading further south.

I agree with Pineapple about transfers being painful though there is a risk booking flights and hotels separately as you don't always get ATOL/ABTA protection if things go wrong.
