Argghgh.. DDs 'child' passport has expired and need an adult one urgently...

posting here for traffic.

DD has a school trip in Feb.. needs a visa for it - school requested passports to be submitted by this Friday. Just went to get her passport and it expired in August. ARGHGHGHGGHG. Didn't realise. She's now 16 so I will need to 'renew' but it seems that as she is now 16 she needs an adult one and the form says this will take 6 weeks.

Does anyone have any happy stories to help? I'll be going to the main post office tomorrow morning first thing to check...

Ours have just been renewed and took a week and a day!!

LIZS · 06/12/2016 21:54

Ds ' was turned around within a week earlier this year, regular service.

Mrsmadevans · 06/12/2016 21:56

Took less than a week for both my dds to turn around and we did them ourselves too

loobylou10 · 06/12/2016 22:03

My sons said 6 weeks in may and it only took 3. I would ring and check timescales with them tomorrow and then do check and send if you have enough time. If it's going to be tight, make an appointment to go and do it direct because you can't change your mind once you've sent it in. Good luck.

PUGaLUGS · 06/12/2016 22:12

Both my DS's needed adult passports earlier in the year, they only took a week from me sending them off to getting the new ones.

abigamarone · 06/12/2016 22:12

You'd have to check if you need photos countersigning - I need to renew my youngest lad's pasport before next summer and he is unrecognisable from his photo.

Serin · 06/12/2016 22:14

I recently sent DS's (age 16) off for renewal (from child to adult) I didn't pay for check and send and it was back within 1 week.

We live within the catchment for the Liverpool office and they do seem very efficient.

Musicaltheatremum · 06/12/2016 22:15

My sons first adult passport was sent through check and send at the post office on a Saturday. It was back the following friday. Do it now. Everybody is doing their christmas shopping not getting passports.

HelloDoris · 06/12/2016 22:16

Sent 2 away a week ago on a Saturday a few weeks ago, mine appeared on the Wednesday Dd appeared on the Friday. So very quick!

bruffin · 06/12/2016 22:16

My dds first adult took less than a week, it didnt need to be countersigned as she didnt look much different from her child passport I did it on line.

HelloDoris · 06/12/2016 22:17

Er that made no sense Doris. 2 weeks ago I sent on the Saturday the following Tuesday mine appeared, Dd appeared on the Friday.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 06/12/2016 22:22

I did mine online. You can upload digital photos. Then you send yours off and my new one was in the post within 24 hours. It won't be by Friday but it could be by Tuesday. Do the application on line now. Send it off tomorrow morning and you're underway.

MollyHuaCha · 06/12/2016 22:30

I telephoned and made an appointment to go to the London office and have the passport issued the same day. A lot of queuing and hanging around, but it was worth it to have the passport so quickly. But I think this is quite a low demand time of year for passports (don't quote me on this!). You prob have enough time to post it off.

BigGreenOlives · 06/12/2016 22:33

I just renewed mine & it took under a week. I received an text letting me know it had been received. Didn't do the check & send as I didn't feel it was necessary, you can submit a digital photo if you do the application online so you don't even need to get photos printed.

Neaders · 06/12/2016 22:39

Where are you and what is your background? Is an Irish passport an option?

Frazzled2207 · 06/12/2016 22:50

It'll be back before Christmas.

Peterborough is the other place. I had to get a quick renewal for my daughter last summer. Phoned up on the Monday -In a mad panic-got an apt for weds 9.00am paid the money and the new passport was back with us via courier on Friday afternoon. And this was Aug time. ( so most people had prob got theirs sortedWink)

honeylulu · 06/12/2016 23:07

We renewed three for our family recently. Our daughters was a first (child) passport. They all came back in 6 days. Used the online service which is great as you can track the status of the application.

notangelinajolie · 06/12/2016 23:13

If you can get to a Post Office, they offer a service that checks everything is in order and this will ensure everything is filled in correctly and prevent delays. Not sure you can fast track a childs first adult passport but they are really fast these days and mine only took a week. Tell school, I am sure they will wait a few days

My 2 eldest DD's booked a last minute weekend before uni in Barcelona with expired passports. Muggins me had to get a train from Manchester to Glasgow passport office and get them renewed same day, I think it cost me Hmm more than the bloody holiday.

Babyroobs · 06/12/2016 23:17

I renewed my 16 yr old ds's passport recently and it only took about 3 weeks and that was with the added complication that he was born abroad and they later requested his new Zealand baby passport which added a good few days onto the application process.

Groovee · 06/12/2016 23:18

Got Dd's adult one earlier in the year in 3 weeks after her child one expired.

llangennith · 06/12/2016 23:27

It can be done in a day but you pay megabucks for it.

mum11970 · 06/12/2016 23:29

When my ds got his first adult passport it only took a couple of weeks, no longer than renewing my younger children's passports. I think it takes longer if you've never had a passport before.

IloveJudgeJudy · 07/12/2016 08:14

When I changed DD's passport from being on mine to her own and DS2's first adult passport, it was really easy and quick, I presume because it wasn't their first ever passport. Hope it's the same for your DD.

Candlelight123 · 07/12/2016 08:16

I applied for 1 kids renewal & 1 adults renewal last week and they came within 7 days.
