Sickness that isn't gastroenteritis

AIBU to not want to be told off by Teacher?

DD came home early from school yesterday (Foundation class) as was told she'd been sick...fab timing as nativity today and tomorrow.

When I collected her I asked if she'd been sick and was told no, by a teacher waiting with her in Reception. She said her teeth were hurting which is jackpot signal for DD being shattered and overtired. A sleep fixes her right up; no projectile or the runs. She was a little bit sick, but there was nothing there (bile-like). Definitely not gastro.

She recovered quickly and was absolutely fine last night and this morning, so took her in. Enjoyed the nativity, all was good.

Then I got collared by the Teacher, and told off because children are supposed to be off for 48 hours. I explained I was told she wasn't sick, and the Teacher told me she let it slide because it's the nativity. I even offered to take DD home, but was told that wouldn't be necessary - I get it, there's been a 2 hour exposure to other children.

I know there's a responsibility for more children than just mine, but if there had been actual S&D there's no way I would have sent her in - I assumed, as Mum, I might be able to make a judgement call.

I think too many parents will send them in saying "oh it's not a bug, it's x y z" if you don't have s blanket rule. Parents are under so much pressure for attendance (at school and themselves at work) that if they can get away without sticking to the 48 hour rule, a large number won't

Teacher sounds stressed and that happens sometimes!

A lapse in communication as they assumed your daughter had been sick (vomiting) or at least had symptoms beyond sore teeth.

However, it may be the school's (unusual) policy that any child sent home needs to wait 48 hours before returning.

I think the school has probably been caught out too many times with 'it's not a big' only for the child in question to vomit all over another child, mess their pants or fall asleep in the corner...

I can see why they enforce the 48 hour rule for any sort of sickness.

Too many parents trying it on because they don't want to have to take time off work. Plus those who really are sure it isn't contagious vomiting, except they're wrong...

My daughter suffers from anxiety linked to her ASD and the school are happy to accept my judgement as long as she has been no diarrhoea.

What's that got to do with the price of tea in China TheSconeOfStone?
