Ive just got a new house, there's years of paint on the skirting boards. i quite fancy having no skirting but what would I put to fill the gap between wall and floor? Does any fellow mumsnetters have this or aibu?
There will be carpets in bedrooms and staircase. Not decided if carpet or flooring in living room.

I had new flossing floors laid in two of my bethrooms over the summer when they were both totally renovated, and they have no skirtings. They have a line of white or clear stuff sealing the flooring to the wall. Weirdly, it's much warmer than previously when the rooms had skirting boards.
But everywhere else has skirting board. Bloody things, collecting dust, but a necessary evil I suppose.

Of course, they were floATing floors in bAThrooms.

I like the idea of beading. Does anyone have this?

"You dont need skirting. A friend of mine has her carpet going about a foot up the wall and is a great feature. Makes the room look cosy."

We have no skirting boards, our house is a self build. So we made sure plasterers knew this so they did a good job right to the floor. On our tiled floors we have a movement/expansion joint, it's about 10mm thick and has a bit of room for things to expand should they need to. In the carpeted rooms the carpet just meets the wall. I don't see the need for skirting at all.

Pretty sure you need them with carpets otherwise it's going to look very messy.

Our carpet is cut in a perfectly straight line that sits tight against the wall spam
