AIBU to get a cleaner

Background, been a SAHM / student for a few years. I reallllly hate housework (don't we all). Our house is relatively clean and tidy but no where near show home level.

I've been job hunting for a few months now and finally been lucky enough to get offered a job, it's only 15 hours a week but will take the pressure off us money wise which is nice.

However when I said to DH that I was considering getting a cleaner in for a couple of hours a fortnight just to clean the kitchen and bathroom he totally blanked me about it. He knows I'm not great on the cleaning front (but seeing as he doesn't do much himself he can hardly complain) and seeing as it would , in effect, come out of "my wage" I can't see his problem.

So AIBU to consider this?

No I am doing the same. I just can't keep on top of the cleaning and I don't care if people think I am lazy.

I don't feel bad about paying for someone to wash my car / cut my hair / clean my windows / cook and serve me food in a restaurant - all things that people commonly do but could easily do for themselves if they were so minded to.

Yanbu if you can afford it, do it.

WorraLiberty · 06/12/2016 09:58

Do it if you can afford it.

But if you've been a SAHM / student for a few years, perhaps he's a little pissed off that now you're describing your financial contribution, as your wage?

Sparlklesilverglitter · 06/12/2016 10:00

YANBU as long as your budget permits it of course

I am currently on maternity leave and I only got one now, because TBH I am far to busy enjoying DD to clean and while DH will do it he isn't found of cleaning either

PowerScreech · 06/12/2016 10:02

Perfectly reasonable, takes some pressure off you and gives someone else a few quid. Win-win.

i don't think YABU if you are going to pay for it yourself, although I can see where he's coming from. You've been at home, and now you're only working 15 hours a week; sounds like you have had plenty of time to clean.

StefCWS · 06/12/2016 10:12

I hate cleaning, if I could afford it I would pay for one :-)

buggerForTheBottle · 06/12/2016 10:19

We have one. I guess she's a 'lady's help' but it's wonderful.

Lizmay12 · 06/12/2016 10:21

Yanbu,
I would love to get a cleaner if I was able to afford one.

I've just hired a cleaner, in fact she'll have finished just about now. If it doesn't work out, I feel like I haven't lost much, but if it's good it'll be great.

I feel like life is too short to be cleaning when it's taking a quarter of my weekend (e.g. All Saturday morning) and I work all week.
