On a 12 hour shift today- ate lunch at 12. Texted DH at ten to 8 to say I was on my way home. This was actually a pre-emptive text as usually I get home and he hasn't started dinner. Actually left work at 810 and arrived home at 840pm so 20 mins later than text would suggest. DH not only had not started dinner but he sent me to the shop for ingredients because he was in his PJs. Got back and he starts making dinner, then finds he's missing another ingredient and asks me to go back to the shop!! I was fuming. He said how was he supposed to know it was missing as he hadn't started cooking yet. I said when he is at work I start dinner way before he gets home to be ready for him. He's in a grump. I'm in a grump.

When he does long shifts I go to the supermarket and make dinner to be ready as close to him arriving as possible. It's now nearly half 9 and he's barely started cooking. AIBU to be really pissed off? I am very hungry though.

if i had got home at 8.40 and had lunch at 12 to find he hadnt even bought the ingredients let alone started cooking, i wouldnt have gone shopping i would have picked up the phone and ordered takeaway, you are so not being unreasonable and i would have been fuming

Squirmy65ghyg · 05/12/2016 21:29

This is bananas. Make a sandwich!

ThoraGruntwhistle · 05/12/2016 21:30

If this is a regular occurrence, you should either get a takeaway, buy a ready meal on the way home or make some things that can be taken out of the freezer and cooked without preparation. There's no point in being angry when you pretty much expect him to let you down. Why rely on him doing the dinner if he never does it properly?

YouTheCat · 05/12/2016 21:31

Sounds annoying.

Would it be possible, in future, to make extra when you cook and freeze a few portions? That way you could have a bolognese or something and all you have to do is cook some pasta to go with it.

I wouldn't rely on your h to make your food and I wouldn't be doing it for him either if he's such an arse over it.

Drip feed- he's an amazing cook so eating my own frozen cooking would be a step down. However I think tomorrow I'll eat at work- it's not worth the hassle. Not going to put myself out to be ready for him getting home again though!

This happened before when he started making a risotto when I got home at 10pm (different shift and longer commute). I explained I wasn't going to eat risotto at 11pm right before bed. He made me an amazing cheese toastie that time, but really it's just not on!!
