To be a bit hurt by this?

I mentioned to my friend that I'd committed to do a small amount of voluntary work on Christmas Day and she said 'well, I suppose you won't be doing anything else!'

I know she didn't intend to be hurtful but AIBU to be very mildly miffed?!

Hmm. Did she say "I suppose you won't be doing anything else" or "nothing better to do"? Those are different things. The second is certainly rude, not so certain about the first.

Yes, you've made your feelings clear Trifle, I think. Thank you for your input.

Very odd response, OP. I haven't 'made my feelings clear' as such; I asked a question. You're the one asking if you are being unreasonable. That depends what she said.

yanbu to feel miffed at all. Your friend sounds horrible. If a friend of mine was alone on Xmas day I'd be inviting them round to mine, not making sarcastic comments to make them feel bad

wilddaisyonthehill · 05/12/2016 19:11

Apologies Trifle, I just really can't be bothered getting into the 'she said, he said' scenario. I said what she said (!) in my OP. I then added some additional meaning I extrapolated from it. You leaped on that and started pulling it to bits. It gets annoying.

Your fruend is a bitch of she knows that you ate alone on Christmas day and youd rather be enjoying with friends and family.

Trifleorbust · 05/12/2016 19:17

You can't be bothered engaging with posters who want to clarify what was said so they can answer your question (AIBU?). No worries. But you're right, that is annoying.

wilddaisyonthehill · 05/12/2016 19:19

You already answered it!

She's not a bitch - I think it was thoughtless / tactless rather than bitchy.

I answered it and then you appeared to change what you had posted in a later post, so I thought, hey, that actually is quite rude, and I wanted to check which one she said in case I was the one BU. But that was of no interest to you and you tersely thanked me for my input. Confused

Regardless of the fact it's Christmas Day, it would be a pretty rude thing to say in response to anything!

"I'm going to the cinema"
"Well I suppose you haven't got anything better to do"

"I'm having an early night"
"Well I suppose you haven't got anything better to do"

"I'm going on holiday over Christmas"
"Well I suppose you haven't got anything better to do"

I cannot think of anysituation where that would be a polite and kind thing to say to anyone at any time.

TwoGunslingers · 05/12/2016 19:26

Has the friend maybe invited you to spend the time with them on a Christmas before? And they're maybe upset you're volunteering instead? Just trying to guess why a friend would say something that could be taken so badly
