Ok, I don't think IABU, but maybe others might.

Shopping in town today, as you can imagine the streets were full of all deserving charities selling their wares, asking for donations etc.
None more deserving than others, I must add.

So got me thinking about why they ask more at Christmas, is it because we get more emotional at this time, are more giving etc.

I can't afford regular payments to the ones I'd like to support as many can't, but can afford a one off each year, I save small change all year.
So today I just thought I'd remind those like me to if possible donate a small amount to support those who aren't regularly out gaining support.

The local hospice, hostels for victims of dv and their dc, homeless, and all the other small local charities who can't afford to employ street fund raisers.

Even if it's just a blanket donation to SA, a toy for children in care, a meal for the homeless etc.

They ask for more at Christmas because people are splurging cash all over the place.
Charities know that some people will be keen to offset their avarice with a charity donation.

Yanbu to think that just because they're asking to have to give but I think you can workout why they ask!

Yes, what MovingOn said. It's not so much 'virtue signalling' as 'VIRTUE SINGING' at Christmas, loud and clear and the charities are capitalising on that. Good for them. :)

They ask more at Christmas as I think this time of year makes people more generous. I think you look at all the goodies you are buying and think of those with less

Of course many people can't afford to give regularly but this time of year they might be able to spare a pound or two for a good cause and it all adds up for a charity
