to ask you to make me less bored during induction?

Blue2014 · 05/12/2016 12:03

Day 3 of induction today, had pains that kept me awake all last night and now nothing.

I'm so bored I am literally going out of my mind (have sobbed and had panic attacks)

Traditionally my hobby is work Confused

Please please tell me what I can do to make the time go faster (and please don't say "just relax, you'll have no time soon. I can't relax, doing nothing is creating further anxiety)

I do have loads of available resources. iPad with skyQ, a kindle, some magazines, an iPhone and (of course) mumsnet ... I don't know how it's possible to be bored with all that but I am.

Any tips?

Go for a long walk - not as in miles away, just around and around hospitals nd grounds and car park. That often sets people off.

Squats

zofranks · 06/12/2016 13:25

Are you still waiting? Install Hayday, Township & Gardenscapes on your ipad - I lose months to these games - they are addictive.

Good luck & ask for the section - I had to have a section with my dd, she was 5 weeks early, breech & I was 41 and knackered - it wasn't too bad tbh - everyone made out sections were hell but I didn't think so

AnaG1ypta · 06/12/2016 13:57

I played many games of scrabble with DH.

DS2 - waters broke Sun, induced Thu, delivered v.late Saturday.

I think having ARM (even though they'd already partly gone) and a catheter to empty my bladder got him out.

Large baby and I'd had a c/s with DS1. The damage from DS2 lasted longer and was more painful I think. I wish I'd taken the c/s with hindsight.

Day 3, bloody hell, mine took 6 hours and I was bored enough with that. I did do lots and lots of walking around the hospital is that an option? There was a funfair on outside and i wished I was there. Good luck xx

myoriginal3 · 06/12/2016 14:05

Ask a senior midwife how they see this panning out.

Vanillaradio · 06/12/2016 14:33

This sounds just like my induction. On day 5 they finally gave me a c section. Op I hope that your baby is here by now. If not I spent my time climbing up and down every staircase in the hospital, bouncing on the stupid ball and reading a vast number of books (never had so much time for reading since..! ) Good Luck.

twinkletash · 06/12/2016 14:35

Get a yoga ball and bounce in it and watch something easy, I watched all 3 seasons of gavin and Stacy and it kept my mind busy but not too busy

nickEcave · 06/12/2016 14:36

Do you want a section? I went in to be induced when I was 2 weeks overdue with DD1. After 3 days of pessaries there were no contractions and they couldn't even do a sweep so I eventually had an elective section. Baby's head was huge and she was lying strangely so was no way she was coming out naturally. If you're ok with the idea of a section start talking to them now because you'll be bottom of the list as an elective unless the baby starts showing signs of distress.

Blue2014 · 06/12/2016 16:13

Thanks everyone, apparently my waters have now broke (i didn't notice) so they're going to start me on the (dreaded) drip.

I've mentioned a c section a few times and they had agreed if nothing was happening at this last check but seemingly it is. Honestly I predict it'll end in c section anyway (they are estimating baby is not far off 10Ibs!) but let's see.

Fingers crossed he just pops out with no pain at all ... That's perfectly possible right? Confused

Totally, totally reasonable expectation for a 10lber. The baby will be just very long and thin and will just slip on out of there. Probably.

Best just ask about the C-Section again just in case he's not maybe? Wink

zofranks · 06/12/2016 16:24

wow well good luck - I hope he comes pretty fast and as painless as possible.

But as TheProblemofSusan said...best ask about a section just in case Xmas Hmm

OnTheNaughtyList · 06/12/2016 16:32

Ahhhhh how exciting I'm so pleased for jealous of you! I hated my induction and later c section with the twins at the time but I'd do it 1,000,000 times over now Flowers

Gardencentregroupie · 06/12/2016 17:20

Good luck! I reckon he'll be no more than 9lb 8oz at the most :)

myoriginal3 · 07/12/2016 12:35

How are things?

myoriginal3 · 07/12/2016 12:36

My prediction is 8lb 9 oz

EnglishNotBingo · 07/12/2016 12:41

Oh I hope you are all done and dusted now!!!

(I also told my DH that I'd decided not to give birth after all when I was in labour).

myoriginal3 · 07/12/2016 13:08

I'm lol at you all changing your minds about giving birth at all. Grin

EnglishNotBingo · 07/12/2016 13:37
Grin

I also had a bit of depression when I was pregnant, and was quite terrified of childbirth. I remember when I was very heavily pregnant crying to DH and saying ; 'I just want to run away..... but wherever I go the baby is always there!'

Disclaimer - the birth was fine.I was fine and DS was fine. :)

zofranks · 07/12/2016 14:59

Has the baby been born yet?

MrsMozart · 07/12/2016 19:30

Popping in to see if he's popped out.

Hope all is well and you're resting nicely with your lad.

Blue2014 · 08/12/2016 12:09

Ah thank you, the induction never really worked and was all a bit of a farce. Emergency c section eventually got my little one here last night. That certainly wasn't boring! Confused
