WWYD work and feeling poorly

MsJamieFraser · 05/12/2016 06:25

Can't even believe I'm asking this

Never had a sick day and im the actually sick.

I've had to come of the pill for medical reasons 4 months ago, so dh had a vasectomy and I've bleeding every 2-3 weeks... mostly I've been fine. Was on the pill for 7 years with no break or bleed.

Last night I was having cramps, had to take some pain killers and I was all hot and clammy, I feel asleep on the sofa and dh woke me up and we went to bed, woke at 1.30am with really bad right hand side pains which is traveling down my leg and around my back, got up and took some more pain killers and haven't been back to sleep... I feel exhausted, heavy and I'm sore.

However I'm not sick it's a bloody natural inconvenient horrible time, but by word do I feel as if I've been hit with a sledge hammer.

In what sense are you not sick? You may not be vomiting if that's what you mean but you sound ill to me.
Hope you're feeling better soon.

OrangeSquashTallGlass · 05/12/2016 06:30

No work for you today. Rest up and feel better soon.

Thattimeofyearagain · 05/12/2016 06:30

You ill, stay off and recover, hope you feel better soon Flowers

mumonashoestring · 05/12/2016 06:34

If you've been ill overnight and it's left you too tired to work effectively without making yourself more ill, then stay home and get some rest. If all you're going to be doing is keeping the dust off your chair and staring blankly at a wall then there's no point being there.

And if you've got any kind of manual, caring, technical or driving job, then definitely don't go in while you're both tired and distracted by pain.

Oh, and please keep an eye on the temperature - if that keeps going/staying up, please see a Dr or at the very least ring 111. I don't know what your 'medical reasons' for coming off the pill were but the level and type of pain you're describing doesn't sound 'right' to me.

Whereabouts on your right side is the pain worst?

Gizlotsmum · 05/12/2016 06:35

You need to rest up...

MsJamieFraser · 05/12/2016 06:39

It's directly on my ovary, one minute it's just cramp, the next it's like a sharp twisting pain, it's feels very heavy.

I don't actually have a temperature, however my body is hit and clammy to touch.

I don't think I can tolerate this every month.

Sounds like a day off work is required, but tell them you're "ill" rather than "poorly". If they're mean like me, they'll think poorly sounds a bit flaky. Not sure what your place is like, but many employers require a call by 9.

VintagePerfumista · 05/12/2016 06:41

Was just coming on to be brisk and say "are you ill, or "feeling poorly" in manner of Hattie Jacques.

You are ill my love, and that's what you tell them. You also tell them you might not be in tomorrow either.

Spit spot now. Flowers

Sweepingchange · 05/12/2016 06:47

Poor you. If I were you I would rest up and use the time to sort an appt with the gp\referral to gynae. Could you poss have an ovarian cyst? I'm not a hcp but I do have a small ovarian cyst which causes me similar symptoms. Hope you feel better soon.

mum2Bomg · 05/12/2016 06:53

I'd not go to work if I were you. Flowers Don't over apologise, just let them know and go back to bed.

MsJamieFraser · 05/12/2016 06:55

I feel silly to say I'm ill or unwell, it's just a period.

OP posts:
Astro55 · 05/12/2016 06:58

Don't fret - and ring them

A period wouldn't keep you up at night or be in such pain - if you rarely have a day off one or two won't hurt - it's not like it's every month is bit?

Kerberos · 05/12/2016 07:00

Doesn't sound like "just a period" to me.

Get thee to a GP and don't even think abut going to work.

sueelleker · 05/12/2016 07:00

It might not be hormone-related; google symptoms of kidney infection.

Astro55 · 05/12/2016 07:03

I did wonder about appendix

WingedSloath · 05/12/2016 07:06

Love the phrase just a period. I have endometriosis so my period is exactly like you describe, every month. It affects my legs too. So painful. Over the counter pain meds don't do much for me when I am like that.

You are not well enough to work, fact. That is why you don't work today.

If they know you well then they know that you don't do this very often.

And I also came off the pill for medical reasons, was on that particular one for 6 years and others before that. It masked all my symptoms of endometriosis so I wasn't diagnosed until I came off the pill.

If the pain doesn't go away I would suggest seeing your GP.

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 05/12/2016 07:09

Sick days are not just when you have an illness Hmm.

If you are in pain to the point where you can't sleep even after painkillers you are not fit for work.

Enkopkaffetak · 05/12/2016 07:19

Op Phone your gp for an appointment that sounds very like when I have had PID (www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Pelvic-inflammatory-disease/Pages/Diagnosis.aspx Pelvic Inflammatory desease) and it can become very painful (I have had 3 surgeries due to it)

Hope you feel better soon

Enkopkaffetak · 05/12/2016 07:20

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease clicky link

CaveMum · 05/12/2016 07:21

Have you ever been scanned for ovarian cysts? What you describe sounds exactly like what I've been through with the buggers! They come and go so are not constant but are bloody painful when they get too big as they can twist themselves around.

Day off work and if it continues or reoccurs in the future ask your GP to refer you for an ultrasound.

YourOtherLeft · 05/12/2016 07:22

I hate being off work ill, even when I know I should be. I remind myself that the typical person takes 13 days off sick a year. You've got a lot of untaken sick days in the bag!

DailyMailCrap · 05/12/2016 08:56

I only take sick days when I'm vomiting or have fever or but that's because I have the ability to work from home. If you don't have that ability then you should take sick leave if: getting to work is unsafe (ie you will pass out during the commute), doing your job is unsafe/impossible, there's a risk your illness will cause others to get sick

FaithFromTheRealmsOfGlory · 05/12/2016 09:07

MsJamie you have posted in AIBU about whether you are too unwell to GP to work and it's a unanimous yes! Rest up. Take painkillers. Do you have a wheat bag or hot water bottle? Might help. I echo the suggestions to see your GP.

PurpleMinionMummy · 05/12/2016 09:29

Stay off. How did you go 7 years with no period? Shock

MsJamieFraser · 05/12/2016 12:49

Sorry I went into work Hmm got these and the pain got do bad that I threw up, I've just got back from the doctors as I'm bleeding to heavy so he's gave me tranexamic to stop the bleeding and mefenamic for pain relief.

I'm at my gynaecologist on Wednesday, I've had a MRI scan previously to starting my periods again and hopefully they will show something up as to why it's this bad.

I've always been on the pill, and one that I didn't have to come off so with that my periods just stopped.
