No one is getting married..... Aggggggggr!!! It's all over the ads on tv.

Besides Christmas is a season, not just one day!

Definitely , Christmas is 12 days!
I love Christmas, just LOVE it. I milk all 12 days for all they're worth.

Costacoffeeplease · 04/12/2016 23:19

Why does a big day equal getting married?Confused

Christmas Day is a day, winter is a season

HeddaGarbled · 04/12/2016 23:21

YABU. Christmas Eve = evening before the big day. Christmas Day = the day. Something to do with someone lots of people think was important being born or something?

Amethyst81 · 04/12/2016 23:23

I agree to me 'big day' means a really special event like a wedding or due date, Christmas comes every year so nice as it is, its not unique or special in any way.

WorraLiberty · 04/12/2016 23:24

YABU to compare it to getting married.

YANBU to think Christmas is more than one day, although in the grand scheme of things, it is the biggest day of the Christmas period.

WorraLiberty · 04/12/2016 23:26

its not unique or special in any way

Not to you it isn't.

To me, every Christmas is special and unique as it's different for us every year.

Amethyst81 · 04/12/2016 23:29

Why is unreasonable to compare it to getting married?

malificent7 · 04/12/2016 23:30

Christmas is very special to me but "the big day" makes my teeth itch!

Because a wedding isn't always a 'big day'.

For some, it's just far simpler and cheaper to pop to the registry office and get married, than it is to consult a solicitor regarding wills/pensions/next of kin etc...

I can think of at least 3 couples off the top of my head (probably more if I took my time), who have been together 20+ years and simply got married to tick the legal boxes for one another.

Amethyst81 · 04/12/2016 23:37

Big day doesn't neccessarily mean a big wedding, I take it to mean a momentous life event such as a wedding, graduation or birth of a baby etc, things that don't happen very often, Christmas happens every year.

BackforGood · 04/12/2016 23:41

YABU
It's 'the big day' of the Winter season for lots and lots of people, for lots of reasons.

user1477282676 · 04/12/2016 23:43

Not long till the Big Day! Not long till' the Big Man comes! Grin

GravyAndShite · 04/12/2016 23:44

Christmas is very special to me but "the big day" makes my teeth itch!

You should get some cream for that. Maybe Baileys Irish Cream would help.

YABU. Xmas Grin

Suppermummy02 · 05/12/2016 00:04

Definitely , Christmas is 12 days!
Where does 12 days come from? In my world its 3 days at its core but a few months as a season. The big day is just an advertising gimmick.

toffee1000 · 05/12/2016 00:34

Haven't you ever heard of The Twelve Days of Christmas?? Starts on 25th December and ends on 6th January which is when trees have to be traditionally taken down.

RachelRagged · 05/12/2016 07:17

How does one's teeth itch ?

I only ever see that on Mumsnet .

Statelychangers · 05/12/2016 08:04

I wish it was a day...

EarlGreyTeaAndToast · 05/12/2016 08:14

I don't think yabu. In other countries, Christmas Eve is the biggy, specifically just the late afternoon and evening of... In orthodox countries, it's the 6th January and not about presents or food particularly.
I don't get the UK's obsession with this one day either. It's bonkers.
So I spend it in Europe where the shut down is confined to one evening 😂

Parker231 · 05/12/2016 08:37

For me Christmas Day is the Big Day - the days before are for shopping, wrapping presents, work parties etc. Afterwards is for relaxing and having lots of family time before going back to work and starting the new year.

TheSecondOfHerName · 05/12/2016 08:40

There is biblical precedence for comparing the arrival of Jesus with a wedding. Several verses in the new testament refer to Jesus as the bridegroom or his followers (collectively) as the bride.
