Is there life after dismissal? Feels like the end of the road Sad

Practically, have you signed up for agencies? Recruitment sites? Updated your CV? Signed up for income support or jobseekers or housing benefit if you can?

Emotionally, are you ok? Do you want to talk about what happened?

hayhooo · 04/12/2016 21:48

There's no real way to update my cv sadly. I did the same job for over ten years and lost it. I just feel so sad.

It takes a while ( took DP a couple of years) but you will come back from this. Can you challenge the dismissal? If not register for benefit asap and maybe volunteer to get some new skills for your CV. Good luck

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 04/12/2016 22:01

Why were you dismissed ? As curious to know
If you will get a reference .
You sound very hurt but darling - update the CV .get back
On the horse and look
For a new job . There is nothing else you can do really
Is there ?

ChasedByBees · 04/12/2016 22:05

You will have skills you can use and have developed. What do you want to do? Is it what you were doing and if so, is it a big market?

Are you able to get a reference from your last employers?

This isn't the end.

hayhooo · 04/12/2016 22:11

No no reference. It's the end in terms of this career so got to think of other stuff I can do.

Do some voluntary work, on your cv put that you took some time out to reassess and find your true calling in life. In one go you have the new and current trends reference and an excuse for your cv in regard to leaving your job

OlennasWimple · 04/12/2016 22:16

When do you need to work again (financially), and what do you need to earn? As in, do you need to get out there quickly to pick up a temporary retail job over the busy holiday season, or can you take the next few weeks to reassess what your options are, update your CV and start mapping out a plan of attack for sending out your CV?

hayhooo · 04/12/2016 22:18

Yeah. Need something now really.

I knew someone who was sacked for stealing
He bluntly admitted this and said in application letters that he was looking for someone to give him a chance.
They did.

ClopySow · 04/12/2016 22:26

You'll probably manage to pick up something temporary at this time of year won't you, which will see you through to the new year.

hayhooo · 04/12/2016 22:29

Hope so but childcare will be difficult

hayhooo · 05/12/2016 16:00

Rang round some places, nursing homes, you would think they need staff!

Supermarkets etc are recruiting Christmas staff. Royal Mail too. Restaurants may need extra waiting and kitchen staff

Not been in this position myself but DH has just lots his job for the 2nd time this year. Give yourself time to mourn - it's a big deal. However, it's not the end. Give yourself a few days, get the basics sorted - CV, sign on so you have some income support, review your finances and come up with a plan for what the absolute minimum is you need to live on. Then treat your job searching like it's your paid work - dedicate a full working day to it, take breaks, have a checklist of things you've applied for or even research you've done into different opportunities. Can you retrain? Could you do temp work? There ARE options out there even if it feels like there aren't. And if you can get something, anything, as a stopgap, remember you will then be in a stronger position to start applying for things you really want to do.

Sending Flowers as it's a shit place to be. I might be let go in the new year and am going to try desperately to remember my own advice if I do! Main thing is to stay as positive as you can and investigate ALL avenues available to you.

hayhooo · 05/12/2016 16:24

Thank you. Feel very discouraged.

OP posts:
redexpat · 05/12/2016 16:31

If you dont know exactly what you want to do then I would really recommend temping. It gives you insight into a lot of workplaces very quickly and it can really give you back some confidence.

hayhooo · 05/12/2016 16:35

I don't know how to go about it, do I just sign up with agencies?

OP posts:
redexpat · 06/12/2016 08:25

Yes either go in in person with your cv or sign up online. You have to ring them quite regularly to show them that you are interested.
