Grated cheese has no place in a sandwich

howabout · 04/12/2016 16:21

YABU

I prefer grated but I use twice as much as I would if I sliced it - just as well I am too lazy to wash up the grater but bulk freezing is already starting to lead me astray Xmas Blush

Oldraver · 04/12/2016 16:21

What do they do to grated cheese though...it always seems to have a funny texture ?

madein1995 · 04/12/2016 16:22

Slices are the way. Potato peelers ate the way to slice cheese!

For me it has to be slices for a sandwich.

Could you buy the block then slice half thinly and grate half and leave in the fridge as a compromise to help with your budget?

expatinscotland · 04/12/2016 16:24

We have a small food budget but it's sliced all the way here. Grated makes a huge mess and you end up with more waste.

WheresTheEvidence · 04/12/2016 16:25

Yes to cutting it with a vegetable peeler.

NoSunNoMoon · 04/12/2016 16:27

Grated cheese is cheapskate. Sliced is the only way. Grin

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 04/12/2016 16:27

Grated cheese is the Devil's own foodstuff.
Sliced is the only civilised way to have cheese in a sarnie even if it is wasteful!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 04/12/2016 16:28

Dutch cheese slicers are great. Wonder where I put mine?

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 04/12/2016 16:28

if he's using too much cheese then tell him. If he eats it all in three days then he'll have to have bread and butter for the next two days.

I used to do that for the children with crisps and biscuits...buy enough to last the week and if they ate them all in two days then it was tough titties for the rest of the week. They soon learn how to self regulate.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 04/12/2016 16:28

Grated cheese is messy & creates more washing up. No thanks. I'd rather compromise elsewhere if necessary.

Bought grated cheese tastes well DD because it's coated (usually n potato starch) to stop it sticking together.

NoahVale · 04/12/2016 16:34

I found The Cheese slicer Grin
showed it to DH who thinks it is great, and is going to monitor others use of it, hmm

If you have a box grater it usually has a slot on the side you can use as a slicer.

NoahVale · 04/12/2016 16:36

so it does Shock

i like the idea of pre slicing/pre grating
