AIBU wondering about age limits for teens & watching Game of Thrones

My DS (15) is spending weekend at friends after going to see big football game. Message from him this morning saying that they stayed up real late watching GoT box set...That's got me thinking...

What age are teens starting to watch this stuff?

I know it is very violent, torture, rape, explicit sex, nudity, etc.

I did King Lear for A level and we were taken to the National for a matinee performance. I was 16. I can't remember which theatre it was but I was in the front row, about 10ft from the actors, when Gloucester's eyes were gouged out. It was incredibly convincing. After a conflab we agreed they'd probably used grapes with red dye in them.

It didn't disturb me and I don't remember any of my classmates being troubled either.

I've seen a preview of tonight's Walking Dead btw. It's slightly better but still a bit annoying.
